Inheriting French Property
#1
My father recently died and has left me a freehold property in the South of France. Obviously the deeds and everything to do with the property is in his name so will need changed to be in my name - interestingly a UK will does not cover foreign property so 'could' get interesting.
Anyway, has anybody else been through this and have any experiences that I might find useful ??
Has anybody used a UK based solicitor to deal with this situation on their behalf - if so recommendations would be good.
Please only reply if you have been here or know something about the process involved.
Thanks

Hi
I have property in France and I know a little bit about the process (although my parents are luckily still alive).
Legally, if you are the son and there is no wife, you and your siblings will inherit the property, even without a will.
Best would be to contact the "notaire" who did the transaction when your dad bought the place.
BTW, just out of curiosity, where is it in the south of France?

Thanks for the comment - it is near the village of Grimaud, a few miles from St. Tropez. Unfortuantly he bought the place years and years ago and all I can find are the deeds and no mention of the legal rep etc.

The village is Grimaud, about 5 miles from Port Grimaud and I love the area having been down there for about 20 consecutive summer holidays. If you look West from Port Grimaud you should see the 'ruined' castle on top of a hill - that is Grimaud and a very nice place it is. You get fantastic views at night across the 'Gulf on St Tropez'.
If you could find out what is involved to get the deeds put in my name that would be fantastic.
Thanks
