Those M8/M74 matrix signs always try to give general advice when they are not being used for anything serious.
Sounds like a good idea to me

On Saturday I drove over 350 motorway miles and passed lots of the signs saying 'Firefighter strike drive with extra care'
Good idea IMO, if it makes a person slow down then it's worth putting it up.

The ones on the M1 were saying the same thing yesterday. Maybe when the firefighters aren't on strike, they could put some more helpful messages up...
"Don't sit in the middle lane, moron"
"Get off the mobile, d1ckhead"
"The third lane is not the BMW lane"
"Stop picking your nose. Yes, you"

Saw this also on the M25 and then M11 last Thursday night
The signs should have said something more useful like-
PLEASE USE THE M11 IF YOU WANT HYPOTHERMIA
**WARNING** WE HAVE NOT GRITTED THE MOTORWAY AS THE MONEY FOR DOING SO HAS GONE TO PAY FOR THE IRAQ WAR
gRRR

I posted a thread on this before, as I for one am infuriated by it. FFS do they think I'm going to drive with extra care just because the fire-fighters are on strike !
It's like saying (when they are not on strike) I don't mind crashing today, there is someone on duty to cut me out !
I drive with extra care all the time.

On a serious note, there's one around nottingham-way going southbound on a downhill stretch of the motorway which IMHO is going to cause an accident, not prevent any.
The sign is too bright so that from a distance all you see is a blur. At around 200 yards, you can read it, but you've squinted all the way looking at the sign, which is hardly conducive to safe driving.
Other signs don't appear to have this trouble and are instantly readable from quite a distance.
Is there a "brightness control"? This is a serious post, btw, so no suggestions of "try sunglasses "

Driving home up the M1 on Sunday night, all the matrix signs had a light bulb showing, which was most disconcerting...
They also all had "Firefighter Strike. Please drive with extra care"
There are also signs that say "Tiredness kills - take a break!" or the caravanning ones that say "11 Accidents in the Last Year"...it's been there for 3 years that I know about...

I saw the sign that said "Firefighter Strike. Please drive carefully" on the M25.
Now that there's no strike, does that mean I can go back to driving like a loony?

"Slow down, wet conditions cause spray"
Errr thanks 4 that on M25 yesterday and I even put my wipers on
Still with the abandoned snow cars should have been
"Leave your car in the snow, and pay £100 a day for its storage in our compound"

Best ones I've ever seen are when driving through an absolute pea-souper and viewing a helpful matrix sign, once you are 5 yards away from it, with FOG written on it...
Well cheers for that!
