Hi All,
Well as of today Im officially unemployed and hence guess I should sign on and take my 40 quid a week or whatever.
Anyway quick question - Do I need to do it today(Monday) or can I wait till tomorrow? I should find out about a job this afternoon so it may not be worth it - hence would rather wait till tuesday.
What do I need to take - My past employer hasnt given me my p45 or letter of redundancy yet -and Im fearful that it may take them a while judging on previous performances I saw in the company - g1ts.
Any other tips!
cheers
Andy

Go today, they will make an appointment for you. Your claim only starts when you attend that appointment, i.e. the day they accept your forms, IIRC.
Even if you do get a job fairly quickly, you may as well get your payment for the days you were out of work.
Good luck with the job hunt!

My other half was made redundant. Went to sign on and eventually got a letter saying he wasn't entitled to any money because he hadn't earned enough in the tax year. They reckon he earned £1,650 in the last tax year. Erm...... I don't think so!! He'd hardly be offered a £50k mortgage on that would he?! Anyway, turns out his former employers hadn't been paying his contributions even though they had taken them out of his wages. I supported him for 5 months till he got another job. The dole office refused to investigate further and said because I worked more than 25 hours a week I was in a position to pay his way till he got a job. I could have been on minimum wage (I wasn't but we still are in financial sh*t because of the episode), so be carefull!! Good luck
