Its not my fault they are incompetant fools so why should I/we be forced to deal with them.

Thats something that has allways made me wonder. If recruiment consultants are such experts at getting you a job how comes they are still working for office angels etc?
Russ I take it that you are an estate agent yourself from your comment nevermind we all had to start somewhere. There is still hope you know dont let it get you down. Just think you can work your way toward a company VW Golf . Now thats a real incentive.

Or...
I got rid of the cossie 6 years ago (had it for 4 weeks, what a pile of Sh1te!) and now drive an STi5 V-Limited.
Hard to believe that someone who's car forcibly compels them to wear a shell suit can generalise to inaccurately.

RussP, its good that you spend so much time on SN.
It means you have less time to less time to lie to prospective clients....IMHO
its 5 mins walk from the station.
(yeah, if you are a tyrannosaurus rex)
the neigbours are really quiet
(enter neil, vivien, mike and rick)
they have approved permission for a 2 story extension.
(your allowed to put 2 library books on the roof)
there are probably more.

what about this as a warning?
"Your home, health, savings and marriage are at risk when inviting estate agents round for a chat".
disclaimer: i do not necessarily agree with the above.
but i might do.

Why moan about Estate Agents??
I sell my own houses - no need for an agent at all, I can HONESTLY say that its as easy a task as I have EVER done.
And they have the bl00dy cheek to call it a job!!
BUT you cant blame them if someone wants to pay them 2% of their house value to telephone someone, tell them a house they want is on the market, buyer comes round, vendor sells house, agent picks up money .............. whos the idiot?? THE HOUSE SELLER!!
Pete

Emmmm - No I didnt, I said that they will take your money and do nothing for it - thats NOT moaning, its stating a fact.
An Estate Agent is hardly a job either is it? If I can fit in selling a house in my lunchtime then its easy money isnt it??
Why, oh why are there Esate Agents at all?? there is simply NO need for them! Its a funny fact of life??

Oh Dear Pete - you've done yourself this time.
Nobody on this board has EVER agreed with anything you've ever posted - and you've just said estate agency is totally valueless and its all a big con.
Ergo, it must be a completely worthwhile occupation full of happiness and reward.
Incidentally, what do you do for a crust?

What i do for a living doesn't effect my values - i'm still me whether i sell houses for a living, preach sermons, work in tesco's with Pete Lewis or waste my time designing websites nobody looks at.
Whatever your line of work, you decide on your own ethics and stick by them. Read the papers - Doctors raping patients doesn't mean they all do it. Accountants falsifying documents doesn't mean they're all bent. Not all teachers hit kids. And believe it or not, there are actually MP's who aren't crooks.
I started my own business 8 years ago, now have two branches, professional qualifications, earn a good living and pay my taxes. 40% of my business is repeat business - people coming back to us because we did a good job and provided them with value for money. If i didn't i wouldn't still be in business would I?
I accpet that people want to hate estate agents and find fault with what they do. In many cases deservedly so. I don't defend anyone else's business ethics - only my own which i know to be honest and fair.
But i'm coming to the end of my time within estate agency and passing it over more and more to my fiance to run. Why? too many years of clients lying to me, sorting out the mess when they try to stiff each other and finding i'm to blame when it strangely shifts in my direction.
Property brings out a fearsome greed in people and an estate agent sees people at their most uncoopertaive, avaricious and devious.
In two years, i'll be out of it and i'll move on to new challenges. I'll still be the same person though, and when you come in to my studio and ask me to photograph your family or wedding will you still hate me?

The worst thing is that people tell lies all the time.
From the easy to spot "We've sold" to the ones where they swear blind that "I told them that" or "I never said that". We've had people move out and remove the fuse box (which was my fault apparantly) and sales fail to complete because the buyers solicitor failed to send off the required £180,000 (at which point the buyer wanted to fight me for possession of "his" keys.
This weeks first row was a seller that put their property on the market with ourselves and a couple of other agents. We agreed a sale and removed it from the market - but unknown to us, they left it on with the others. Result? Three weeks down the line (having spent £350) our buyers got gazzumped by one of the others.
The fact is that i didn't know the other agents were marketing it, and the other agents didn't we know we'd sold it. The vendor is entirely to blame for playing one off against the other, but i get the **** for it. The purchaser told me they'd never use our company again because WE gazzumped them!
I could tell a 1000 similar stories but the long and short of it is that people become pretty bloody evil when their "cave" is involved and our job is to make the best of it and try to keep everyone happy.
So who do you think the worst, greediest seller most likely to gazump/withdraw/put the price up on the day of exchange are????
Policemen.
Honest!
