Dunno, Putin is 'insisting' on more time for the inspectors.

Chirac is loving it.

Do the French never learn. We have to bail them out (with the Americans) in two world wars because they can't defend themselves and now, they and the Germans are on the edge of breaking up NATO.

The more I think about it the more I think Sadam and crew should be stopped. If the world had been more forceful with Hitler... then who knows.

Next worry will be North Korea, they are actually producing nuclear weapons.

extract from the Independent

This is what our forces think.....

LONDON - One in five of the military reservists called up in preparation for a possible war in Iraq has asked to be excused from duty or ignored the order.

The ministry of defence confirmed on Sunday that hundreds of part-time soldiers, airmen and sailors called up as part of the build-up of Britain's armed forces for a decade had applied for deferral or exemption.

What should we expect with the French??, like you say we saved their backsides in two world wars and the repayment for this??, selling exocets to the Argentinians during the Falklands conflict, did we not expect them to bottle it again??

Priorities........

This is probably just media hype. Have they actually looked into the reasons? How many reservists do we have, and is it "normal" that a few hundred would have compelling reasons for opting out, such as the birth of a new child, etc?
When people join the forces (including the reservists), I would hope that they join in the knowledge that they are there to serve Her Majesty's Government, and to follow the orders they receive from their commanding officers. If they can't face being called to fight in a war they don't believe in, then surely they wouldn't have got through selection.

I'd prefer not to believe anything that has no basis in fact.

If the news headline said that compared to previous reservist call ups, there was a huge rise in the number of people seeking to be excused, then fair enough.

However, no metrics were applied - they were simply pointing out that a number of people were seeking to be excused. There was no comparison between other call ups, and hence we have no idea how this actually relates to previous call ups.

If I only believed things I wanted to hear, I'd believe we had a stunning transport system, no congestion, and excellent education

I guess people don't mind being paid to run about the woods at the weekend, but when they have to run around the desert being bombed with chemical weapons, they might change their minds on exactly how much fun it is. I guess they can be put in prison if they disobey an order to turn up for duty if their claims for exception are turned down?

Looks like France and Rusia want a bigger say in how Oceania, Eurasia, and Eastasia cut the pie.

Never liked a hand wringer but is this a knee in the ***** to Blair and Bush?
