Nice handling 4 seater convertible, cheap 2nd hand, what?

Excuse the grammer above
Would like a 'fun' car that I can take the top off and play a bit in. Want 4 seats so I can pop the sprogs in back occasionally.
What is out there?
306 cabrio? Old 3 series? Saab? Would any work round a track?
Maybe a pair of MX5's instead LOL
Views? Experiences?

I had an 91' Golf GTi convertable, that was great fun, quite a posey motor aswell.
I think you can pick them up quite cheep, the roof leaked on mine, its a common problem and expensive to fix (unless mr mastik and the silicon sealer are around)

Got to go with MK1 Golf GTi, get a Rivage or Sportline in that order as they had the best specifications. Dark Green or Blue Rivage or Flash Red or Black Sportline.
I had one for 4 years and only lost 2 grand on it when I sold it, only did 20K miles.
They are available up to J/K(rare) registrations. Very reliable but steering a bit heavy and brakes require some extra heavy footwork, apart from that they are great motors. You can get a very nice LHD one here in Germany for under 3 grand !!! You'll need to pay a bit more for a good one in the UK.
They need to have been garaged regularly for the roof to be in good condition, some Rivage models had mohair roofs, don't buy a Clipper as they are usually white and always gutless.
If your thinking of kids in the back then you may need to retrofit read diagonal belts as mine only had lap belts(H plate).
Cheers

Tx folks. I may try a golf, but I'm concerned it won't go round corners like I want it too.
Rich...LOL
I think it's a lost cause though. Flog the dodgy STI and get a new M3 cabrio then? LOL
Rag tops ain't fun :-(

PSLewis swears by his Escort Cabriolet and a colleague at work tells me that his Escort cabriolet corners "like it's on rails".
That's got to be the one to go for then...
Go for one with "Cabriolet" written down the side so everyone can tell you've got a cabriolet.
