ordered some goods from USA (Collectable calendars) to a value of $137 including P+P. just got a postcard thru the door saying i owe £22.94. WTF. contacted HMCE and they say that VAT is payable along with an import duty. this still doesnt make up the 23quid so i contact parcel force who inform me that there is a £9 charge for getting it thru customs. again WTF. so i have nearly paid half as much again for the feckin things. certainly takes the enjoyment outta them. feckin money grabbin motherless sons of B***hes.

I ordered a remote conrtol truck for $389. Cost in the UK £480.
Parcelforce turn up at the door and i had to pay £78 duty....![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Still saved some cash but I agree. It did taint it a little.
Great toy though

If the order was processed as an export item, you wouldn't have had to pay any purchase tax on the price in the States, so you only need to pay the applicable tax charges on import here into the UK. You shouldn't have paid tax in both countries. That's not a rip-off that's simple tax law that every country applies.
The rip-off is that the pre-tax prices we pay are so much higher, not that that we have to pay tax. The one exception to the above though is petrol, with 80% of the price you pay being tax.
Though the £9 handling charge by parcelfarce ain't much fun, that I do agree is a bit harsh in your case with a relatively low value item.

Dunk....No it doesn't mate. I had this issue with customs before I ordered and they assured me that they would still request duty on the item if it was purchased by someone in this country and mailed here.
The only way round it would be to get someone tin the country of origin to pay for it and then you pay them.

tell the sender not to include receipt/credit card slip etc (Or if they do to under value it.)Also if you can get them to gift wrap it up. I bbuy many things from a ICE shop in the states. They are only too happy to play along.
Stuff the Goverment
If you go abroad and buy stuff. Send all the receipts etc home by post. Bought a £2k + bike back. Shop was only to happy to provide old tyres and free mud. All you do is take a krappy old bike out with you of the same colour. left the old bike outside the airport. Saved £900.00 .Even blagged the bike cost on the airplane !!
