JFB apologies ifyou've already set up the topic, but couldn't find it!!!
So c'mon then guys - who can recommend a load of bottles of wine?
I'll start the ball rolling.....
1. Campo de Viejo - Gran Reserva (Rioja)
2. Faustino - Either Reserva or Gran Reserva (Rioja) - available in Red, Rose & white...
3. Marques de Caceras - Rioja....cheap too (£5)
4.Barolo - v.nice but forgotten the name!!
Any recommendations for white wine?
Not too keen on dry white - do like Blossom Hill..... any other ideas?
Dan

Hey Dan,
I posted the topic under "En Primeur" but it hasn't raised a murmer. It's the 2000 vintage which has not been bottled yet - due 2003. The 2000 vintage has proven to be a smash hit with prices of the quality Bordeaux doubling if not trebling since last year. The Margaux and St Julien are certainly worth a look but are already trading at £18 - £35 per bottle. I've bought some but more as an investment I guess. If it proves sucessfull after say 5 years or more, I plan to sell some and keep the rest using the profit to fund the remainder that should last me for some time.
Check out Chateau du Tertre (from memory)or Talbot which seem particularily good value. Do a search on "En Primeur" and you will find a whole new side to fine wines. I do like the Marqeus de Riscal too.
On the whites, A good 1996 Chablis premiere Cru or Sancerre is hard to beat. I picked up a beauty from Safeway for under £7 the other day. A good Barolo is also a serious contender and can go up to 15% proof so you have to respect it especially the older ones.
Hope this helps.
Jerome

Depends what you like French, or New World.
My favourites are from Wolfblass, easy drinking, and no hassle.
Try the Wolfblass Chardonnay, or Sauvignon Blanc or Shiraz or Merlot, go for the silver or black label, these tend to be the better vintages which have the higher prices.
These are all Australian and are fantastic on the nose, with good bodies.
Things like Chateau Talbot, Ch Giscourts, Ch Haut Marbuzet (spellin ????) and hundreds of others from either the Bordeaux or Burgundy region are very good but check the years, some will celler for many years to improve the taste. The better French reds always have a lot of tannin, and should be left for atleast an hour before temperature in a warm area. A old vintage red would need de-canting 24 hours before serving due to the amount of sedement.
Chablis Premier Cru is very good, and one of my favourites.
I have a few contacts who supply fine wines, but we are talking £30 + at cost per bottle and are not drinkers wine. When i say a drinkers wine, i mean you can not just buy it then open it then drink.
Gran Reserve Rioja is very goodand reasonably priced.
OK i will stop boring you all.
