Question

Can anyone recommend a good company to offer web site monitoring?
I need to be able to rely on them testing availablity of a web site 24/7 and alert us if any outage is found.

Thanks

John

Most co-los will offer this service, is your server hosted off-site? Failing that you could do it yourself quite easily, a script that makes HTTP requests every X minutes (pinging wont work since that'll just check the interface is up) to the site in question and mails/SMSs/pages you when no response is returned. Don't put the script and webserver on the same subnet

You can try Empirix (www.empirix.com) they did a couple of test runs for me, you can contact Roy Garlick on rgarlick@empirix.com for more information if you want.

Cheers,

Richard

Thumbs up

Thanks for the replies,

Steve, the web servers are here, but they sit behind 4 firewalls, so we need to test as if its outside coming in rather than on the internal in...

RichB I've been looking at this intersteer site, seems good, has anyone actually used them to provide a service?

I'll try the expirix site aswell cheers

Cool

I have used Internetseer.com for some of our sites. They check every 10 mins, although i'm not sure what they check (will have a look at panel and confirm)

They also send out a weekly report (graphs and stuff) and i think 2 sites are free !
