I have a couple of people looking at my Sport at the weekend. One guys sounds really interested and said he has the cash to buy there and then if he likes it.

I sent my documents (registration and MOT) into the DVLA at the start of this week to get my private plate put on retention. My question is....how do i explain about this and what proof can I give him that it is my car, number of previous owners, and that it has a current MOT??

I am really worried that whpever wants the car will be put off because I cannot show these documents. What do you think?

Tell the buyer the truth- try to demonstrate that your an honest guy and tell him you'll keep the car till the documents arrive if he's interested. He could also do a credit check on you at your expense. Electoral role etc.

Pay for it to be HPI'd.

That way all your details should show up.

Costs about £25 I think.

If he wants the car he will be prepared to wait a few extra days for the docs to come back more than likely

When i sold my old vauxhall, i was keeping my plate and had driven to the dvla office to transfer it off the car onto the new bmw.
I had the reciept for the transfer and the ammended MOt cert and the new reg number- the only thing i didnt have was the V5 and had to wait about a week for it to arrive.
He took the car as he could see it was legit and i forwarded him the V5 as soon as i got it.

Problem is you have done it by post so no proof, and a longer wait.
Not much you can do really.

ok, this guy is coming tommorrow and he is really interested. said he wants to put down a deposit and collect mid next week.

i did mention about the docs and he seemed to shrug this off and didnt seem too bothered.

i have lots of other supporting doc's and will explain the procedure to him, its just the DVLA told me today that it will be up to 4 weeks before the new V5 comes through!

would you buy a car without seeing the V5???

i will be so gutted if this guy doesnt want the car because of this.
