Oldskool BMX's
#1
Just wondered if anybody else on the Board have either still got their old BMX's from the 80's heydays or whether they collect these classics?
I've personally got a 1984 Aero Reflex with the mandatory SKYWAY Tuff 2's & am refurbing my 1st BMX an old Raleigh Night Burner , don't know if it's an early mid life crises (at 30) but I love these old bikes again , just wondered if I'm the only one!!!

I don't still have my BMX's but they were great! I had a Curtis Expert with Skyway Tuff 2's, and my brother had a Skyway TA (Totally Aerodynamic!!) also with Tuff 2's. It was all white. Must have been about 1985 or so.

I still have my Raleigh Chromo-Burner (original, not tear drop frame model) with black Aero Zytek mags and CW bars. Tried to clean the rust off it a few years back but really struggled. Bob Haro was my hero.
Strange thing is only last week I was digging out info on the old BMX scene and found this. I can remember seeing this ad in the BMX magazines I used to read. Brings back so many memories of the time.

Had a Raleigh Nightburner as my first BMX too. In a funky red, metallic grey/anthracite and silver trim. In fact my brother still had it up until about 4 years ago. Man that bike went through hell and back.

I used to have a GT Bike. It was bright green and had those 7 spikes wheels (tuff wheels?). Me an some friends have built several launch ramps and quarter pipes. Later, we all changed to Skateboarding.

I had a Team Murray from early 80's, sky blue with white Skyways. I stupidly left it at an ex's house after a night on the pi$$, never collected it - it's maybe still there, rusting away?
She was a great ride, christ I really miss her....... the bike that is

Hy first BMX was a Puch GTi Turbo £45 from Macro.
I hated it as everyone else has atleast a Raleigh Burner.
Soon modded it though, debadged, CW's with Mushroom grips, layback seatpost with Airoyal saddle, Skyways and a set of trick nuts
Those were the days.

Pants - i need a bike though and oh yes i would join you until i broke summink and the strength i have now compared to before when i went when i was little, i dont think it would take long to be flying 6ft out of the Clover Leaf to my death in the Bowl, but hey, pick me up and lets burn some rubber. and not break summink. lmao

The fake skyway frame i had, snapped from the bottom bar, near the stem connection, after i landed a bit hard from jumping off a kerb, kerb's used to big back then. !! i remember crying for some time as i couldnt ride my bike. lmao. replaced it with somekind of Pug 406 frame, nice n shiny, no more tears. bear trap pedal's both lmao and ouch.... !!!

Peugeot BMX's , remember those!! You remember the Piranha with the curved 10 spoke wheels ? Seem to remember they were built like Eastern block shot puters & twice as heavy!!!
Your fake Skyway Ipski1 that was the fake TA wasn't it? The real thing was about £1200 back in the mid 80's !!! No one had one of them bad boys , I was Raleigh Burners of all types round our way ,with the odd Diamond Back thrown in.

Jodster the Rippers did have a few problems with cracking due to being made of T6 aluminium and having some rectangular tubing. Just had a go on mine after reading the thread. Allways fancied a quadangle myself.

i had a GT Pro Performer, I think that was what it was called.
we used to take them on a skate bowl in the local village.
it hurts just thinking about it. i couldn't do those 180 air things now.
