Unhappy

A bad day was made even worse as I got stopped on the A3 going home yesterday by a friendly policeman.
Laser showed 99mph at a distance of 415m.
Was told I may get a summons as I was more than 26mph above the posted limit but should avoid a ban as below 100.
I was asked if I would like to make any kind of statement but just asked him to note the road ahead of me was totally clear and I was not tailgating or doing any other such buffooner [apart from lead-footedness i guess].
My question is [at last]: If no ban is mentioned when I get my summons can I just plead guilty by post take my fine and [hopefully only] 3 points and go back to being a model citizen.

Please no anti-cop jargon. He was just doing his job.

I got 3 points and £60 for 90 on a dual carriageway (70 limit).
I was sent a letter asking who was driving. Then sent a letter allowing me to plead guilty and take the points/fine.
Dunno how much worse 99 is.

This might sound stupid, but is there really much more chance of an accident at 99mph as opposed to 70mph? I feel that on a probability basis there probably isn't. Especially in the situation you described where the road was clear etc.. I maybe wrong, I don't know. Sort of thinking aloud here, so please don't lay into me too hard!

Who can be sure? There's no consistency but road conditions do get taken into account, in my experience at least.

FACT: Got pulled on M27 doing 118.6 mph by Vascar (shown readout in car) £60 fine and 3 points [late at night and clear road]

FACT: Got pulled on A road outside Southampton doing 53 in a 30 (Roadside mobile camera) £100 fine and 5 points [mid morning and plenty of traffic]

I was caught doing 96 on a dual carriageway by an unmarked Subaru Impreza Police car. I thought it was someone that wanted to play.

I was given a fixed penalty. 3 points and a £40 fine.

There are no set guidelines. Some you win and some you lose.

Good Luck

All this seems like such backward thinking to me. Someone at some point said "right, people can only travel at 70mph and below on the motorway". What a stupid way of dealing with things - totally objective. We are supposed to be advancing. This kind of thing annoys me. People have to start thinking in more advanced ways if we are to move on.

Sorry to hear that mate. But I have deep respect for your attitude - if you can't do the time, don't do the crime.

Hope you get off lightly.

You know me Dave.

As far as the 70mph limit thing goes. Look at some of the threads talking about the driving style and attitude of some of the people sharing the motorways with us.
I've posted threads stating annoyance over lane-swappers, people driving up my exhaust etc ...
I've said it before and will say it again, all car drivers should do a week [or two] on a motorbike as part of their driver training.
Improves your awareness 100 fold.

Thanks for the info. Looks like i'll be going to court then .

Exclamation

Often it's not possible to join the motorway at any sort of speed because the dopey s*ds already on it won't move over. Doh!

I agree Ian.

And just to add another 2p - how about the dopey sods that join the motorway at 40mph
