Anyone interested in a 3 month contract (likely to be extended) in Basingstoke doing 2nd line support? I just quit my job so they're looking for a replacement. Mail me at my profile address if you're interested and I'll send details this evening.
Environment is predominantly Windows with some Novell, (they still have about 1000 users on Windows 3.11). Pay is up to £160/day. Post or mail if you want more info.

good for you TK I bet you enjoyed resigning. I've left a few jobs when they didn't want to pay me in line with the job I was actually doing. Good luck in finding another job if you haven't already.

They are paying in line with what the job involves, but that's what I was doing 7 or 8 years ago and doesn't represent anywhere near enough of a challenge now. I only took it as a temporary way of paying the bills. I actually feel bad about saying I won't accept the contract extension offered, because the team leader is a nice bloke and he tries to do his best for everyone despite some pretty severe constraints.

Plus all the hassle with tax & VAT etc, juggling how much to pay yourself from your company to pay as little tax as possible, relying on an accountant who ***** off to Brighton with a day's notice just before tax return date...... Cheers.
Contract jobs pay well, but are a lot of work and no security.

IT used to be THE thing to get into...but around Y2K there was such an influx of "Y2K Compliance" people in, that after Y2K, there was a flood of IT staff on the market...
Everything's dead at present...hardly any decent jobs about....or if they are interesting, the pay is useless...

Ive found it easier getting contract work than a permy job (which is what I wanted) lots of companies seem to be in a time of uncertainty so seem more willing to employ contractors that they dont have to commit too for long. Im on a contract till September, at which point I hope it rolls on because I dont fancy having to look again, unless things look like theyve picked up, which I think they may do a little now the war is done
