Ants!
#1
Just had a call from the misses saying that we have an infestation in the kitchen (which is nice).
Anything I can do to get rid of them after than use Nipon (sp?). Obviously being the kitchen I'm after a hygenic solution if possible. Any thoughts?
Ta,
Simon.

Killing them in the kitchen is short term.
Follow the trail of ants back to the nest and Nippon that. Or as my Mum would have done pour on boiling water.

Tip from me.
When you find the nest (in the garden maybe) and you give it a kick, remember not to pour boiling water on your foot to kill the ants on it when you have thin trainers on. Doh !

Failing that, an ant trap...
Thanks for the suggestions,... Looks like I'll be taking the kitchen appart tonight trying to find the nest.
It's odd as it's literally happened overnight.

Ant Powder!
Its great stuff, and if you get it near the entrance to the nest they take it back in on themselves and kill the entire nest. My patio used to be full of the little buggers, not anymore!

My mate had an ant problem in his kitchen we ended up ripping the whole kitchen out and chucking it in the back garden at midnight after a few beers, we then spent the rest of the week building and installing his new kitchen, we never did find where the ants were coming in but we did replaster the walls right down to ground level, there was no more problems after that

Try the little plastic domes by RAID. The ants walk through the dome, wonder what all the fuss is about and carry the poison back to the nest killing the whole lot of em. Costs £2.99 from Tescos etc. Just had same problem as you. Problem solved after two days.

It is the weather that sets them off.
We have the ants come into the house from their nest on the first few warm days of the year.
They are just checking things out, seeing if the food they can smell is actually available to raid etc. This was the info given to use by the pest control people the first year we were in the house.
Ours usually spend a few days checking out the kitchen then stick to being outside again. Speed up their departure with a damn good clean of the kitchen floor and also check down the side of the cooker, if a built in one, for crumbs etc. as that is where our ants end up.
I found the use of Nippon powder outside around the whole kitchen does the trick. Just a nice covering a few inches out from the wall.
No point trying the hot water trick as I know the colony extends to about 6 ft by 8 ft under the driveway. I know this as it was there, on full view, when the driveway was lifted to be replaced by block paving.
Which reminds me, the young bees flying down the chimney event is now due.
Cheers

ANT UPDATE!
Well, took all the stuff out of the cupboard under the sink last night to find that the little gits were living under the bottom shelf. Poured lots of nippon around and left them for an hour or so and lo and behold they just kept on coming for the food, so much so that in an hour or so most of the nippon had gone!
Then discovered that they will all 'line' the edge of the nippon so I wrote out the word 'ANT' with the stuff and sure enough they all came out and lined that. It made it look like 3D lettering. Cool!
Didn't have enough nippon or enough adventurous ants to spell out scoobynet though.
