I've got a Sky box and subscription at home.

I'm also going to be renting a flat away from home. The flat is in a purpose built block and has a communal satellite dish with all wiring to each flat.

What I want to know is, is it possible to buy just a digital satellite box without subscription and carry my viewing card with me from home to flat. I don't really want to carry the whole box each time and I certainly don't want to have to take a complete second subscription.

I'm pretty sure this can't be done because your card is assigned to a particular box when you first install the system. Tried taking our card to my brothers once to watch the football because our sky box had broken down and he doesn't pay for the sport. But all we got was a message saying "this is the wrong card for this box"

card is linked to box..you could get one of the new boxes which are pretty small(smaller than a laptop).

We bought a new box a while back and had to phone them. Guess that would be a bit of a pain each time you decided to change location

You can pay an upgrade fee to get a second set top box, this is a one off fee, surley you could then take this to the flat and leave it there instead?

yes but the card is only registered against one of the boxes..or you need 2 subscriptions

BTW your second subscription will not be full price, from memory it's about £15per month instead of the full £36 (or whatever it is at the moment)
