Anyone used creatine?
#1
I'm not a total serious gym goer, but have gone religiously for the last 8 years or so to keep in some kind of shape.
Heard about creatine as a supplement to give a bit of a lift. Has anyone any advice i.e. is it any good? and when should you take it (on training days only?)
Cheers

I like it
I wouldnt touch anything but maximuscle, but thats just my opinion.
Drink loads water, and follow the intructions.
Loading up is 4 times aday for a week.
Then after that, one in early morning, one after noon or after training, I generally have it before bed with a protein shake too

My partners brother was on it and started getting bad palpitations. Don't know if it was related but when he stopped it, so did they!

Yep, I used it. Body fortress iirc. Made my kidneys hurt after a while so I stopped taking it sharpish.
Did improve recovery (unless it was phsycological) but I didn't want kidney failure
cheers

Oh and the one i took required a "loading" period where you took loads, then regularly every day. You cant stop or you have to load again. And you have to drink a LOT of water (or at least I did)
I think it increases muscle size by loading them with water.

Yeah it does. hence drink loads water
I did 3months solid. Staring again in a week or so after stopping since late december.
One you stop, youll notice it hurts more thats where strengh comes from.
Keeping it up with out that! then it begins again

Some good advice here. I feel an experiment coming on. I'll try it for a month then report back with my findings.
as of todays date - 80.2kgs weight
Bench - 77 kgs
Squat - 100 kgs
Lat pulldown - 77 kgs
I have been stuck at the above weights for a while so they will be a good guage for me of any improvement in strength/stamina.
And before you say it I haven't quoted a dead lift figure as I don't do it due to a dodgy back (if i did i wouldn't be driving the car for a while )

Yep burns like hell. Got to the stage whereby I could only sit in the car for 20mins at a time before getting out in agony (going to the gym is for the good of your health )
It had to stop I'm afraid. If your going to the meet on Sunday I will tell a humorous tale of squatting and not being able to walk without knees being locked out for 3 days (hahahahahahah )
Why do I go again?

it wont give you extra strength you need roids for that. However i found it enabled me to push out those last few reps when normally i would fail.
It also bloats you, stomach bloats out, yeah your muscles bloat but so does everything else.
I also used maximuscle then went to predator some years ago, maximuscle was the best.
As for taking a protein shake before you go to bed,,, all that will do is make you FAT!.
I dont think its worth the money or effort, you be better off with a quality diet plan.
hope this helps.

You can't beat quality diet.. but every little bit helps... I use creatine, for short period of time, and find it of value.. but when I am getting ready to compete in a show, I will ensure that I don't use creatine at least four to three weeks prior, as it holds water...
Anyway, enjoy the pain and sufferring..!! you can't beat a good leg workout, as you know it hurts like f*** once you finished...!! just finished my leg work out today, boy like everyone else, your walk gives it away..!!!!

They are supplements!! Of couse a good diet helps but using creatine or promax/progain helps even more.
Remember to cut out caffeine when on creatine though!!

some of you lot would do well to find a mate with a degree in sports science or nutrition as a training partner......some big gaps in knowledge here.
T
ps Take creatine with orange juice will cause an insulin spike which aids absorbtion......or dont take it at all which aids your wallet and is 10 points for common sense.

unless your carrying serious muscle mass and know exactly the amount of protein your body requires, a protein drink taken at night will make you fat.
Protein aids in the rebuild of damged muscle tissues caused by lifting weights, therefore taking it just before bed will only help your body absorb the protein as fat.

Disagree magnat. By lifting you're body is creating a demand for protein it is need to replace amino acids and provide amino acids for new growth. If the protein is required by the body it will not turn to fat. Protein at night is essential to keep the body in an anabolic state seeing as it will be starved of nutrients for the next 8 hours or so.
