Anyone into karting?
#3
I used to race in the 160 heavywight class, did about 6 seasons and thouroghly enjoyed it before giving it up in 98 and going car racing. Karting is so much more value for money than cars( and more fun), in fact I am thinking about getting a Rotax Max engine and getting back into it. My advice would be to go for it, have a look at the Rotax max class.

Check out the karting.co.uk website. It's the karting eqivalent of ScoobyNet and everything you need to know is there. Newbys always welcome so feel free to ask questions on the BBS.
I would also recommend you attend a few club meetings to get a feel for things. And yes, it can get expensive! Great fun, though.

Where about are you based?
I race in the Max 125 class. These are watercooled and very reliable. Its also a great class to race in or simply use just for fun karting.
Like all motor sport it can be expensive. I just got a bill from my mechanic this morning for last years costs and its a bit depressing. However, it included me and my two sons events for last year so not too bad.
Karting is great fun. Race karts are worlds different from the overweight and under powered things that you can hire. If you think hire karts are fun, then real karts are 10 times better. You will be amazed at the grip from a set of hot slicks
A good kart can be bought second hand from around £1,500 or around £2,500 for a new one.
I think there are a few others on here into karts.
