Okay all you newcastle folks, I need a help here, I am moving to wallsend with my work for about the next year and I am going to be renting accomodation nearby wallsend. As I have never been here before I am looking for some guidance.
I am looking for somewhere near by the Metro so it's easy for me to get to the AMEC yard everyday and nearby a supermarket etc so I don't starve. I am not needing specific addresses etc just some guidance on what areas to avoid and what areas are ok, I don't plan on taking my scoob so there shouldn't be a problem with that aspect but might occasionally have Mrs NTS's Clio with me.
Thanks for any help.
John.

I suppose it depends on how much you want to spend on rent. Wallsend would be cheap but I'd recommend somewhere on the coast. Tynemouth is great but it's expensive and maybe a bit quiet, Whitley Bay is more lively (loads of pub & clubs and a lot of people visit it at the weekend) and Cullercoats is between the two. All three have their own metro station so you can get to Wallsend really easily.
My choice would be Cullercoats, somewhere within walking distance of the Longsands and Bill's superb fish & chip shop

Hi New to Scoob>>>> if you want to email me I can put you in touch with my daughter who lives up there in Blyth. She is just selling a house and looking for a flat so will have her finger on the pulse so to speak.

Thanks folks, the company will be paying for it anyway so I'll be looking at about the £600 area per month. I hadn't planned to stay in Wallsend itself I had heard it was pretty bad. Going down on Tuesday/Wednesday for a looksee I'll report on how I get on. Whitley bay sounds good but all these pubs/clubs are heavy going on the wallet just spent the last nine months in Aberdeen so I was hoping to give the bank account a little rest but looks like that wont be happening

NTS,
Send me an e-mail to stuart@thematr1x.com and I'll pop a copy of the Journal in the post for you. Saturdays edition has the 'homemaker' which is a comprehensive property section listing loads of properties to rent, and all the agents, so you can get some idea of what your companies money will get you.
Jesmond is a nice place - and you should get a nice 2 bedroom furnished flat for £600.00, close to pubs and restaurants, a Tesco's 10 minutes walk away, close to the Metro station, and about 20 minutes walk from Newcastle city centre.

Stu, thanks for that m8, I've got some agents stuff here already it was just the areas I wasn't sure of, but by the sounds of it Jesmond is looking good.

Jesmond is a nice area but don't live there unless you like (or can tolerate) students, because there are f&"^@in' millions of them there
All pubs, bars, shops are dominated by them, and the parking is bloody awful. Also, to get to Wallsend Metro station from Jesmond you have to either go the long way round via the coast (at least 50 minutes) or you have to battle with commuters into Newcastle and change at Monument - even then it is 8 stops and probably 40 minutes.
Tynemouth, Cullercoats or even the posh part of North Shields are easier - you can get to Wallsend in 20 mins (in 6 or 7 stops).

Wallsend is a bit rough
Choice places include Jesmond, Gosforth + South Gosforth. Both are nice area's (expensive to us poor Geordies)
and have excellent Metro links.
You could also try Heaton which is not too bad but can be studenty in places but again has good transport links.

yeah, he could live the first six months at Battle Hill and then the second six months at Darras Hall, that would probably average out at £600 a month
