Getting oil off block paved driveway
#1
My girlffriend's previous car (we got rid of the damn thing after this episode) spilled oil in a large patch on my block paved driveway.
I wonder if anyone's been through a similar experience and was wondering whats the best way to get rid of it ?

I presume you want to get rid of the oil, not the girlfriend. Brick acid should do the trick - goes under various names and you can get it from most B+Q type places. Designed for cleaning up fireplaces and certainly works. Nasty stuff to use though.

Saw this tip on a program on UK style or something like that.
Get some cat litter... sprinkle it over the oil and tread it in... then sweep away, apparantly if you do this over a week it works.

don't use brick acid on block drives - it will remove more than the oil.
gunk, fairy liquid and a pressure washer will do the trick. (So will petrol)

Box of washing powerder (i.e. Daz, persil Ariel etc.)
Put plenty on, brush it in with a hard brush, leave for a few days...
Works everytime for me, and its cheaper than buying special stuff.

Can also vouch for petrol. Used to use it to clean my windsurf kit after sailing through a patch of oil. Cuts through it like a hot knife through butter.
Although Id like to try the cola one just to see if its as good as dave says it is.
Simon.
