Took today off work to play golf with my mates.

Was all going swimmingly until the 10th hole. My partner and I were 1 hole up and starting to find out swings when it came to my tee shot.

Par 4 380 yards ish, placed the ball, addressed it - perfect. From backswing to impact it was a perfect shot. The ball left the club head like a rocket, easily one of my best ever drives. Replaced the club with its sock into the bag and smile all my way down to the ***** final resting place 30 yards ish from the green.

As I place my bag down i notice something weird happening to the club, lift off the sock only to take the club head with it, clean break at the bottom of the shaft.

It seems only fitting that the club should break on one of my best ever drives. So for the rest of the 8 holes left i used my 3 wood.

I know this is a little bit sad writing an epitath for a golf club but this was a present from my late mother, like all the things i have of hers means a lot to me.

Bad luck dude

I'm amazed how it managed to break like that. The only way I've ever broken a golf club is by smashing it off a wall, or smashing it off my knee

Infact I've only ever seen a club break at the head once. My old mate (total ***** now) was hitting his shot. When the head hit the ball, it came clean off and started hurtling down the fairway making a tremendous sound, a bit like a helicopter out of control He was raging away, while I was doubled up laughing my head off at it

There are those that suggest that Tiger's recent lack of form (first time he's been outside the top four for driving distance this year, for example) is down to his Nike clubs. Let's face it -- traditionally Nike don't make golf clubs.

BTW I have also snapped drivers before -- at the hosel, near the whipping and ferrule. But these have been wooden ones -- surprised at you breaking a Callaway Warbird. Maybe return it to Callaway -- it suggests some sort of manufacturing fault IMHO.

This is weird !! on saturday I noticed that my drives
weren't going very far - found a crack just below the head of my
"Callaway" driver (graphite shaft)
Mine is only 2-1/2 years old, so I have written to Callaway
hoping that they might offer a reduced cost repair (worth a try!).
Have you thought of getting yours 're-shafted' ???

to be fair this is my second warbird, the first one started splintering at the bottom of the shaft, my mate who works at a golf club sent it back to callaway for me, within 2 weeks they had sent me a brand new one this is the one that fell apart yesterday about 4 years old.

im after a 8 degree ERC next, although i will speak with callaway as this is the second time this has happened to me

Sorry, Great Hadham GC. It's on the B1004 between Stortford and Much Hadham.

I used to play Stevenage quite a bit -- Panshanger too.
