New GATSO's on M25

The cameras that are in place are only there for major roadworks starting "any day now". You can get the details via the Highways Agency web site.
I'm AMAZED they are putting in fixed sites for a relatively short time but it's apparently due to the sheer number of mobile cameras getting vandalised now. How much money must it have cost to put these in with the relevant power and concrete foundations?
No doubt Essex will be making EVERY single one active so they recoup the cost in days.
In fact, come to think of it, I wonder if the roadworks aren't going to begin until they pay for the whole project from speed camera revenue? They could have a sign up like they do outside churches, showing the target and how close they are - then the work begins to tarmac the whole road.
For what it's worth, I think the reason there are so many accidents along this stretch (and also J27 to J28) is/was the concrete road surface. Spray is terrible in the rain and you cannot see the road markings + if it's wet when the sun is setting, you can't see anything when travelling anti-clockwise down the hill to J26.
Naturally, it's easier to blame those EVIL speeding motorists...

Just been round the M25 (Essex - Herts section) and spotted 14 Yes!! FOURTEEN new Gatsos!!!
These aren't temporary ones on trailers either, but fixed!!!
Most of them still had bags over them saying "Not in use" but I don't suppose it will be long before they are!!
They are between Junc 27 (M11) and Junc 26 (Waltham Abbey) and are on both sides of the carriageway (7 clockwise and 7 anti-clockwise)
These may have been spotted before by others on here but I haven't noticed a thread so I thought I would post the warning!!
BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!!!!
(This may get moved to the 'Southern' Forum, but I thought I would chuck it on here to get some better coverage and warn more people )

Sorry but if what I hear on Virgin every morning is accurate, there has been accidents every day on between J26 and J28 for the last 2 weeks. If that isn't a black spot, what is??
Speed cameras won't help - its the idiots who drive too close together that cause the crashes.

Just a thought (and please don't flame me for this ) Is it possible that there maybe long term roadworks coming up and they are going to be putting a contraflow in, hence the camera's on both sides of the road.
I live close to this junction as well, in the past 18 months (AFAICR) there's been at least 5 fatalities in this stretch as well. Still, I know it's bad driving rather then excess speed that normally causes accidents, but 14 does seem a bit over the top .

Sounds like road works starting soon shame they don't widen it or build a M25A as the serious over crowding causes crashes. they seem to happen to frequently in peak times when it is over loaded and it will get much worse with the doubling in size of Stanstard air port in fact it will soon be like the bit near heathrow! jamed all the time!

I agree with the possibility of road works, but I thought they normally put mobile cameras in roadworks. These are fixed.
We will see! Hope they are just temporary.

was driving this stretch of road for some time. not recently though. there have been distance markers on the outside lanes for some time. scared the cr*p out of me every time i went iver them. back that stretch next week! thanks for the warning.

It will be a contraflow during the roadworks and, I guess, a 50mph limit. Then again, Essex like to make maximum revenue so it could well end up being 40mph as they did on the A12.
Hey, why not make it 10mph and they'll make a fortune!
