fuel + flow...
Even with 3000 CFM of air being rammed in by the supercharger on overdrive, the fuel mixture is compressed into nearly-solid form before ignition. Cylinders run on the verge of hydraulic lock

Spark plug electrodes are totally consumed during a pass. After 1/2 way, the engine is dieseling from the heat of compression - plus the glow of exhaust valves at 1400 degrees F. The engine can only be shut down by cutting of it's fuel flow

If spark momentarily fails early in the run, unburned nitro builds up in those cylinders and then explodes with a force that can blow cylinder heads off the block in pieces or blow the block in half.

Dragsters twist the crank (torsionally) so far (20 degrees in the big end of the track) that sometimes cam lobes are ground offset from front to rear to re-phase the valve timing somewhere closer to synchronization with the pistons

I left the longest one to the end..
..you are driving a Lingenfelter powered "twin-turbo" corvette. 1 mile ahead of you is a fully staged top fuel dragster. The dragster will launch as you draw level. You have a 1 mile flying start and blast past him at 200MPH . The dragster launches..you keep your foot down hard..within seconds the dragster has caught you and passes you, beating you to the finish a 1/4 mile further up the road

A guy i know biulds and races dragsters in the UK.
The last one he built was a top of the range jobby. Funny car type thing.
The steering wheel goes in last after you have gotten into the car. It pushes home with a snap. His first test at the pod 0-100 mph in one second and the wheel comes out in his hand. Hadnt pushed it home properly. Change of under pants time me thinks ......

I'm personally not a big fan of drag racing - more a circuit/rally/twisty stuff fan... but if you've never seen or heard a top fueler - you are missing out bigtime just sheer power and noise.. I go to santapod about twice a year when they are running..
