I changed from AMP (Newcastle BS now) to Halifax. I'm now on a 2 year stint that follows the interest rates (currently a tiny 3.74%), interest only mortgage.

Like you, I wanted to get some ackers, so I upped the amount by £10k, and as the the new deal is at a much lower rate than before, I'm still paying less despite having more to repay.

I can "overpay" each month too, to reduce the bill. When the 2 years are up, I'll change again. No point paying OTT is there?

Yorkshire bank seems to win loads of awards every year (best mortgage/best regional lender etc). We have a current account mortgage with them and all I can say is, fookin wonderful. Basic idea is that you pay off your mortgage with your current account and then are charge interest at just above motgage base rate on the overdraft created. It means every week/month your entire wage comes off it saving muchos grandos spondoolicos. Anything you spend goes back on, but if you do all your spending on a YB credit card with the balance sttled in full each month, your lump sum stays in place a month longer, again saving interest. We've cleared about 12k from ours in 6 months and will have it paid off in 3-4 years. Maybe a little longer if I go write a cheque to buy a new Scoob, which you can do if you want as soon as you've generated enough equity by the overpaying.

Suits me, but have a look on here and here .

It really depends what you are looking for. I was looking for a capital chunk as a new roof is required, but then looking to reduce. Went for Barclays Openplan.

Have already shaved 14 months off my mortgage in 6 months.

Ive got a one account - allows me to pay off as much as i like reducing the term of the mortgage.

Brilliant if your income goes up or down throughout the year

Exclamation

Woolwich are doing a 2 yr discount at 3.29% through L&G tied agents. Nationwide have good deals on, but you have to pay legal fees etc, so that takes the edge off
