Driving to central london(fitzrovia) from Croydon in rush hour

Anyone do this and can recommend a good route/short cuts etc.??? Need to do this journey next week and have never driven to Fitzrovia(nr BT tower) in rush hour.

Get on the A235 (A23) London Road and just slog it out. I've done it a few times including Christmas eve, takes about an hour or so.
(turn left when you get to the A202 past the oval and you will go over vauxhall bridge)
