Mate had Sumo Suits and a Bouncy Castle @ his party yesterday and I got body slammed by him & my boyfriend in his Sumo Suits! I STILL feel winded and its kills to breath and laugh!

How can you tell if you have eiter, bruised or fractured a bone?

I broke 8 ribs playing rugby a few years ago, bloody wrecked and I could hardly breathe either.

My advise, get them x-ray'd as soon as you can and get them strapped up soon.

Like I said Im not in total agony but my shoulders hurt and my collarbones!

A mate said that when she did one of hers that the pain reverted another part of her body! Wierd.

Should I go and get it checked out even if Im sure I havent broken them?

When they landed on me, I am certain I heard & felt my sternum crack!!!!!!!

Firstly you say your certain nothing is broken.
Then you say you are certain you felt and heard your sternum crack. Which is it?

Get it checked out at your local A & E unit. At least then you can put your mind at rest.

Thats the wierd thing Chip - I always thought that if you break a rib then you will be in agony but Im not all the time!

Me being me, normally I can bang my finger & end up in A&E but Im sure if something was broken then Id be in more pain!

Being a Bank Holiday, I dont fancy going to the A&E Dept as its gonna be packed. Typical timing huh?

How long do they take to heal if I have just bruised it?

You would be in agony if you had broke your sternum...
I should know cos mine got busted in a car accident last November and its still giving me problems now, not to mention the 3 or 4 broken ribs I had too!

One good tip if you ever do break your sternum, DONT sneeze a week after breaking it when its just starting to fix together again as it hurts like hell as it snaps apart again !

I really think you would be wiser to get it checked properly. Better to be certain nothing is broken.

No-one will Xray for suspected fractured ribs unless they think you've got a significant/major pneumothorax (punctured a lung with a bit of the fracture).

Reason being treatment for bruised/broken ribs/a minor pneumothorax is the same - pain relief and rest. Strapping won't help.

It's extremely unlikely that you've broken your sternum, as you'd need something like a hammer blow or a high speed frontal RTA to get through it. Also you would almost certainly be in hospital/agony.

NB - if you're flying or scuba diving within the next four weeks or so you should get looked at by someone, as little pneumothoraces can turn into big ones if you pressurise them. Your GP is the first step - this is not an emergency.
