Tuesday night trivia question.... just for fun.

After a Bank Holiday weekend, which many may well have spent in the pub, can anyone tell me why the beer glasses used commonly in pubs have the bulge about three-quarters of the way up the glass???
This picture shows what I mean:
What is the bulge for?
Just for fun - no prizes, just a round of applause.

Thats the end of that one then
Authentic looking 20 ounce British No-Nik Pint. It's called a No-Nik because the bulge prevents the lip of the glass from chipping when the glasses are stacked next to each other.

Well done R.B. - copied and pasted from somewhere no doubt, but good research....... :applause:
It also stops the glasses from breaking if / should they be knocked over (as the bulge will hit the table before the lip, and therefore it will bounce and not shatter - try it!)
Most people think they are there to help the drinker - though, as you've discovered, the real reason is financial and aids the landlord. Why else would they be there, everything is financial these days!
Well done........ I'll have to think up another one now!

Seeing as I started it, I'll pitch in with a reply - even though I'm probably way out:
I always thought they were markers for underground pipes, and the dayglow discs were used for (dunno really) laser sighting or spotting easily from the air, or something, perhaps... ???
