Scary
I personally use BT's Website (& click on the Directory Enquiry button - 10 free hits per day but often quite busy
Or for a business, Yell - very good service
No cost at all then

I'm pi$$ed off with all the advertising that is going on at the moment.... they think they are being really clever ingraining numbers into our heads, but they don't make any comparison of why their service is any better than any of the others!

The ripoff/conspiracy is even bigger than you realise
BT delivered my new phone directory yesterday. It is now a combined residential and business one, but there is a subtle change!!
The (separate) residential listings for last year were only the North half of Birmingham, but the business ones covered the whole area.
This year, surprise surprise, the business listings are only for the North - indeed they don't even cover the city centre
Thus, i don't have easy access to business numbers in the majority of Birmingham - so i am forced to have to use directory enquiries
Oftel must be getting back-handers off BT

My mistake, it was 118888 that claimed to be half price. But looking at the numbers above, that's a false claim. Another slanging match as per the gas/electricity people in the making it seems...

Apparently several of the companies offer a FORWARDing service, they find the number for you, then ask if you would like to be put through to your found number - trouble is the 118118 is 30p per minute all the time you are using their service - you get charged their 30p rate all the time you are on their forwarded call.
Betcha they dont run an advert telling you that little beauty
