E.g. Although most women are straight, there are some who are lesbian.

wouldnt have thought so, I got a scooby because I like the look of them, and after driving them love the "rush" it gives you - nothing more, nothing less!
I modified mine 'cos i wanted it to go faster, and hence, give me more of a rush, nothing more, nothing less. Whether or not there is some mental reason why i did all this, I just dont really care, truth is, i am driving a car I have always wanted to drive, and I never have to give it back NEVER!!!
Edited to say I have a STi5 with gold wheels, is akshay really freud???

To hazard a guess, does the primate in us see this as a 'vehicle' to hunt our pray. We make mods that increase performance by 15bhp - in practical terms it means nothing, yet it's highly satifying. What is going on in the brain?

no no no, its to do with mating! Everyone knows (its a scientific fact) that faster car = bigger pen!s - so we get a fast car, and mod it to make women think we are not so "insignificant"!

You maybe close to another explantion. Faster cars which stands out in the crowd is a show of higher status (or just attention in the case of Imprezas, Novas etc), which is a method used by males use to attract females (equally, females are attracted to males of higher status because they are perceived as better suppliers to their offspring)...

perhaps sub-conciously you wish you had a pen!s and therefore by modifiying your car you are making it grow I think i will have to upgrade my car to 1000BHP to have a length of any use!

high performance car = adrenaline thrill rush. plus status & the peacock factor (by which i mean the flightless bird rather than a small wiener - though i s'pose it could be both given the right circumstances ;-)).

same reason some people do extreme sports. adrenaline, status, attraction.
