Well thought I might whack it in the trader for a bit more than our agreed price. Dont want to sell it on here incase something else goes wrong.

OK put my Saab up for sale on here a while ago and agreed a sale with a guy from Manchester who sent me a cheque for £150 (deposit). Cheque never cashed as we subsequently agree to exchange full purchase price when he comes to collect the car.

Noticed a coolant pipe was leaking so informed the buyer I would get this done (obviously at my expense) together with 2 front tyres. Things all set for him to fly down from Manchester and pick the car up Sun 24/8 but the gf takes me away for the weekend so I cant be there for the exchange of cash / keys etc - offer to refund flight cost but buyer agrees not to accept, so we then agree that I will drive the car to him Sun 31/8 and fly back myself (again at my own expense).

Have the car checked on Fri 29/8 before embarking on a c300 mile journey in a car thats been standing for months. ** SHOCK ** told head gasket is going and the heads warped - obviously inform the seller and also say that as a fellow Scooby Netter I would rather not sell him my Saab. Fair enough not really a problem until contact today asking for my views on refunding him his flight cost for the 24/8 - opinions please???

Whys that the decent thing - bearing in mind I now have a £500 repair bill. Perhaps I should have patched it up and sold it as seen rather than doing the honest thing?!

As usual two sides to every story...

he probably wasn't that bothered about the cost of the flight as he factored it into the good deal he was getting on the car.. No car, no deal so he feels out of pocket..

You feel, rightly, that you've been totally honest and could have stitched the guy up with a lemon and hence have saved him some expense..

Why don't you get the repairs done and complete the sale? If I was buying and could see a receipt with 3 months guarantee on the work I'd be happy I was buying a well maintained car.. Alternative is to go on the open market and gamble..
