Not here mate !!!
Stella is at least 20p a pint more expensive than other beers!!
I think it is usually 2.70/2.80 + per pint![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
I have never drank it in NI but I spent a lot of time there last year and thought drinking was generally a lot cheaper!!

Stella is a belgian beer that the the belgians don't drink- work that one out!
Just seems like a bland insipid lager to me- still it's 5% so can't be all that bad. It costs about 30p a bottle here and nobody drinks it.
edited to add: Imprezas are cheap as well and mine has similar build qaulity to a stella can! So I don't think it's a money thing.

Landlord is a superb brew - finding it on draft is a real treat.

There is good stella and bad stella. Most of the time I find it served too fizzy. When served correctly its very nice. But it does get you pissed a lot quicker than similar ABV lagers - Im sure its like the japanese 280bhp agreement and in fact its really running at 6.0% ![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
What about bud - worlds best selling beer. For every 2 beers sold in america - 1 is a bud.
Simon.

Alan, actually it is selling quite well in pubs in Belgium, but it's not considered a "nice" beer. As you may know most of the pubs are owned/partly owned by breweries such as Interbrew, and lots of them do sell Stella.
Jupiler is generally rated as quite good, as is Maes Pils, Palm, De Keuninck, Christmas Alken, etc.. when we are talking about "normal beer". Apart from that, there are about 300 brands of various beers that taste a lot better than Stella. But as companies merge/change hands all the time, I bet most of them belong to Interbrew now anyway ?
Other thought: beer manufacturers often have a different "export" taste, so it may well be that Stella isn't too bad in the UK. Over here, quite a few people don't rate it very high (i.e. think its cr@p
)
Of course, a lot is down to personal taste. I don't do beer anymore, but my favorite used to be Tuborg/Calsberg.

Stella wasn't re-invented as a Belgian market larger - targets export markets, one of the most succesfull at doing this ever. The Belgian market is saturated with high strength specialist beers.
It is a premium lager, therefore you pay premium price over here to differentiate it from pikey bears such as fosters, heineken, castlmaine etc - still why they sell it in "council estate pubs" such as Witherspoons (moon) range of "pubs" I don't know.
There does seem to be two strengths of Stella floating around (not sure how or why), but I know people of had a couple of pints in one pub and felt extremely squiffy withing 10 minutes, other nights/other pubs they can drink much more with-out any affect

In what way is it a "premium" lager?- it's made from similar ingredients as other "dross" lagers. Personally I think it's a triumph of marketing over substance. THe stuff most people drink in the UK has been brewed domestically. Lowest common denominator stuff. As for Jupiler I was in Lourdes recently (worth a visit for anyone just to see and believe it, like a Blackpool for catholics)and sampled a fair bit of it- IMHO a good quality lager and streets ahead of Stella in that it actually tastes of something.

Kroney for me any day!
Although a nice pint of flat, tepid Spitfire won't go amiss!
Is it any wonder that the Belgian's don't drink Stella when they have all their Trappist goodness? Would you drink some 'insipid' fizzy lager when you can savour the delights of some lovely 7-8% dark ales? At least some pubs over here are now bringing the likes of Duvel & Chimay to us heathens! (at a price of course!)

The one thing I miss over here in France is "proper" British beer. My favourites being Harveys and Timothy Taylor Landlord- seems a real shame so many drinkers ignore these traditional drinks and instead plump for bland lagers and even worse sweet fizzy drinks spiked with alcohol.

Stella is full of dodgy chemicals... gives me the poohs. I prefer Becks. Clean, tasty and doesn't give you a dreadful headache the next day.

Sadly this is a product of the large breweries plus lots of commercially-minded landlords who want to make money and don't give a t*ss about the quality of the ale they serve.
Real ale is more difficult to store and look after than lager, which can take a bit of knocking around a bit. Having said that, I have been to quite a few drinking establishments where the lager has been virtually undrinkable!
BTW I've only had 1 decent pint of Landlord and that was at a beer festival in Ongar back in the 80's!!! Admittedly I haven't found many pubs serving it!
I'm still looking for a pub serving Cripplecock as that was the tipple of the day!!!
