Hi, I won a reg number on E bay on July 31st and paid the £25 change of nominee fee on the 13th August (My fault for the delay
) Anyway had the seller contact me to say the retention is back with my name on it so can we sort it out...No probs and yes I can, but whats the safest way to do the deal?
Bearing in mind I've read a few posts were some people from here that have paid for stuff only for the seller to draw the money and disappear or hi-jack a creditable account!!
I'm not too keen on parting with some £400 to someone I've never dealt with and the guy lives nr Manchester. Is there any fail-safe way to do the deal or should I take the day off work and drive up there?

Hello
I don't think that there is a "fail-safe" way without actually seeing the person.
I have used E-bay a few times and have either used nochex or sent a personal cheque. Both went without problems, but you are trusting the other person.
Actually, I think there is something called "Escrow" where E-Bay hold the funds until the good have arrived. So the seller knows the money is waiting, and the seller "releases" the money when the good have arrived. There is a charge for this service.
Steve.

I'm just a bit dubious about the 30 day viewing, etc passing and nows the time for payment. I've viewed his other items for sale and feedback and the amounts dont really add up too much. A £5 for some bits and going up to about £200, although they have 100% feedback with a 53 rating.
I'm just to keen to loose any amount of money or am I worrying about nothing?
It was reading some posts on here that have put doubt into my mind. I think just be on the safe side that I might drive up to Manchester to do the deal.....
