Surely if the name changes, they'll automatically assume it's a different person, well, I suppose it is, so in theory they would be right to do so wouldn't they???

NO, I got married and also changed back to maiden name and number of owners didn't go up. You need to supply proof of name change only. If it's a different person, they will up the number of owners!
