Sorry, have to disagree, Although Thin Lizzy are very good, I would have to say Jimi Hendrix is one of if not the greatest guitar player to ever live!

No the best guitarist of all time has to be Josh White. Chuck Berry played the best rock n roll and Traffic were the best band to get stoned to (so I'm told). The Beatles invented popular music and are to music what Mary Millington was to the "Adult Magazine industry" Jimmy Hendrix played a mean guitar though.

Free - Bad Company - very closely related bands. Bad Company are still *really* popular in the States. Suprised me.

Are we talking technical but bores your b*lls off (Yngwie Malmsteen) or evocative, catchy and listenable or just plain rock 'n' roll? (Not ALL Malmsteen is boring I'll grant you. He did once play for Alcatraz).
Can't remember anyone mentioning Van Halen. Gillan was worth a listen when Bernie Torme was on guitar. Some Black Sabbath is brilliant. Earlier Ozzy Ozsbourne albims, early Dio, early (first 5-7 albums of Iron Maiden, early(ish) Saxon etc. Anyone heard of Loudness? Their Thunder in the east album's also worth a listen.
Vindaloo.

Def Leppard or Aerosmith for me...specially in the eighties! Weren't Leppard the biggest selling rock band of the eighties..... i think so! Even now, they sound the boll*x in the car with a bit of volume! (thats cos i'm getting old and going deaf and i can't hear them over the rumble of the scooby )

LOL I saw Thin Lizzy live a long, long time ago.....
In a tiny 'church hall' sized venue called the Bisley Pavillion. Phil Lynott seemed *immensly* tall.

Cream and Zepplin = First
Best individual player/a
Hendrix and Roy Buchanan = First
IMHO
