Soda Stream

Anybody remember these ?
Anybody still actively use one ?
You can still buy them, I thought they were long gone. I can remember greedily scanning the hundreds of different flavors available in the 'Boots cookshop' in Stockport wanting one so bad it hurt, we eventually got one for CHristmas along with a couple of bottles of syrup.
Didnt really taste anything like what it was meant to, in fact the Tizer approximation was strangely similar to Jeyes fluid, but when you are a kid and you have unlimited soft drinks what happens ?
Well you manage to get through a whole bottle of Tizer-esque Syrup in two days, you feel very ill , require dental treatment and you almost rupure your stomach with Carbon Dioxide and end up a bit light headed, I swear it gave me the 'bends'
I never really go the proportions right, 50/50 wasnt a good idea really, I still do it when I put two stroke oil in the mower which looks very much like a soda stream beverage but probably tastes better.

Remember when you took the bottle off after trying to disolve a full cylinder of co2 into it, it made a really good noise sort of
pttttshhhh pop
I am going to buy one for my car so it sounds like its got a dump valve, with the added bonus of sickly drinks on the move
Remember the sqealing farty noise it made when you tried to add too much C02 ?
Remember the horror as you swallowed to much in one go and realised the water contained way too much gas which was now blowing you up in the manner of 'Tetaodon fluviatilis', aka the Puffer Fish
Remember inhaling co2 from the bottle and coughing your **** off ?
Why did mums get you a bottle of syrup and then buy stuff like slimline bitter lemon just to tease you.
Why did the cat not appreciate his water supply being passed through the Soda Stream ?

Soda Stream was an institution. Sure, you can buy one now but in its heydey you could buy the syrup and the gas bottles damn nearly everywhere.
ISTR that 'Witches Brew' was green. There was a blue one that I really liked.
I wonder if you can still get 'shrinkydinks' -- they were sticker shaped things (I think they came in a packet of Frosties) and you put them in the oven for a while and they became small and hard and you could use them as a keyring or somthing. WTF was the point of them?!?!

The blue one was Vampires Venom - my favourite
Had about 3-4 different models over the years from the small classic glass bottles to the new breed with massive plastic bottles.
Used to love dandelion and burdock. If you got the mix right they tasted pretty similar to the real thing IMHO. Every syrup had its ratio printed on the side of the bottle.
Best was when I made the fatal mistake of adding the syrup before fizzing the water. I still remember as I pressed the fizz button and cherryade erupted all over my mums kitchen - it even hit the roof lol. Never made that mistake again.
Simon.
