Whilst minding my own business driving into town today, three lads having what looked like and altercation in the street, They are all dressed in white, the fast/aggressive movements caught my eye. I looked around to see one of them kick the hell out of a VW Polo parked in the street then the vandal being dragged away by his two mates the vandal ( shall refer to him as scum1) is still going mental kicking out and screaming. I pulled over and called 999 and reported what had just taken place. I stayed parked up whilst I reported the incident. Scum1 and his two friends are joined by a girl gansta. They proceed down a busy street with scum1 kicking out at shop windows. Five minutes pass, I still have them in sight, scum1 has now stopped a truck pulling out of a side road and is trying to get the driver to get out and fight him. I call 999 again and update where they are and that scum1 is now a menace to anyone who catches his eye. I slowly follow them in the car, at a distance. 15 mins later, still no show with the Police. Scum1 and friends are now sat down near a bus stop one of them is worse for war, cannot stand, maybe drink or drugs but out of it as the other try to keep him from falling off their seat... Scum1 now has another go at the traffic, stands there in the road shouting his head of and kicking out.

I now dial my local Police station and advise them that if something is not done he could hurt someone also that I would do something about it if he did this. They advised me not to do this but if scum1 had had a go at some poor passer by then I would have to do something.
Another five minutes pass and the Police arrive, scum1 has a go at them and they arrested him. I give a statement.

I am not having a go at the Police although it took them 20+ mins to respond and there are two Police stations within 3 miles of where I was. I am concerned that this nutter was loose on a main street for 20 mins and could have really hurt someone.

I am glad scum1 got arrested and I am more than happy to go to court in needs be.

Just had a call from the Police - Scum1 has admitted what he did. I do not need to give a statement and he is being let off with a caution, the Police officer said to me he felt he was being let off too easliy but that was what was happening. What is this countty coming to, no punishjment, Scum1 inflicted £100's of damage to a parked car, attgempted to kick in at least 6 windows i saw, threateded and intimidated several people and all he gets is a bad boy don't do it again. FFS!

maybe next time i'll sort it myself!

Cool

What happened to these on the spot fines for public nuisance offenses that were introduced in the UK last year?

He was let off with a caution WTF good is that after he admitted causing the damage? How old was this scum1 character then???

He was let off with a caution, but the police say that is what is happening in this country.

Well in this case it must of been them who let him off with a caution as this all happened today so the courts can't have been involved.

How therefore can the police say this is what is happening when it is them who let him off?

The police in this country are pathetic as is the court system - each one blaming the other all the time while the rest of us get screwed by the criminals over and over.

On top of that neither the Tories or the present government have the ***** to sort it out.

Sorry - feeling somewhat down today.

Regards,

tiggers.

the fines for being a nusnace in public are only for people who are singing on their way home on a friday nite after a few drinks..

proper nuisnace causing sum get away with it because its too much hassle (paper work) for the police to bother about...

fekking disgusting, I cant wait until the public decides to do something about it and stops paying cr@p like council tax and stuff, its all just arip off... people need to stand up

I'm afraid it is a sign of the times (good work fella BTW). A mate of ours was nearly run off the road on Friday night near the A1 / A414 junction. Almost certainly a stolen car - 3 lads in it, driving all over the road, deliberatly driving at other cars etc. So, my mate does the right thing and phones it in - response? Nothing - either too busy or no one in the area. It really makes you wonder.

Oh yeah, what does my mate do for a living - he is a training instructor at the Met Police College in Hendon. Even being a copper doesn't seem to help!

Chris

Edited to say - before anyone thinks this is 'another' anti-police thread, it isn't. The guys on the street have very little say in resourcing. The problem lies much further up the chain....

Chris, agree, the cops who deal with this day in day out must get sick of it. The Police officer i spoke to was very grateful that i had bothered to report the incident and wished more people would do the same. He was also the same cop who arrestged scum1 & who told me scum1 had been let off with a caution and he felt it ws not enough. If i was him i would feel discouraged.

I believe it is the top cops and magistraties wo are to blame. Most Police live the neighbouhoods the work and thier kids go to school in them as well. The last thing they want is bad people roaming the streets.

Judges, politicians and maybe the top cops need to spend a month or so in the run down areas, teaching at comprenesives and then Policing the beats to remind them of the real world.

Unhappy

I might feel a little better about the world if "Let off with a caution" was synonymous with "Had 7 shades kicked out of him in the cells"

This country has no law and order..its like the bloody wild west. And they have announced that rates might top £3000.00 in London next year....

I say again the only way to stop all this...is to put the Goverment /law and police in a position that they cannot get out from...

That means killing scum. Once it is known that good honest people have realy had enough and wont back down the Goverment will be forced to act.

GREAT NEWS!!!!

Scum1 has now decided he has no memory of the incidents, this means he will not get a caution and will go to court - I am pleased, hopefully some justice will prevail.

Police on their way round to take a statement.

Firstly nicely done Paul.

Rich - I wish that was also the case (7 shades comment). I remember once being told a story how they used to terrorise the drunks into being quite by having a kangeroo court and apparently killing one of the prisoners in his cell.

The had to stop whent he CCTV system was installed.

No they get abuse from th cells all the time instead of the scum bags being quiet for fear of their lives.

I say take them to Sennybridge and let the army have some moving targets to practice on! Shooting carboard targets must be so dull!

Well done! Despite the result, you did all that could be reasonably expected of anyone in that situation!

I feel sorry for the owner of the car, who will presumably now have to take scum1 to court himself if he ever wants to see a penny of the damages.... damages that scum1 should have been made to pay by a jusge had he been prosecuted.

It really is very disappointing. Certainly increases the incentive for a bit of vigilanteism next time.....

Good luck Paul, keep us informed.

11 yrs ago I was in my brother's flat, heard breaking glass on the street downstairs where my car was parked. Went down to have a look, 2 guys, kicked in a shop window for a laugh. They started on me, eventually pulling an 8" hunting knife on me. I defused it by giving him a fist in the windpipe. They cleared off. 20 mins later the doorbell goes, with a passer by telling us our front door was on fire - they'd come back and put petrol on it, thank god just on the outside and not through the letterbox. Police came round, knew instantly the culprit (known troublemaker) and got him. Said they were seriously concerned by such incidents as people had died in such vindictive fires. Caught suspect turned out to be on speed at the time, hence the freaky behaviour.

A day before the court case, I got a letter to say the police had dropped the case due to lack of evidence.

Hope yours is a bit more conclusive.

Unfortunately people will be cautioned over incidents if they admit the offence and they have no previous convictions for similar offences. This is unfortunately not the choice of the Police officers dealing as it leaves the victims without criminal compensation. It sucks.

In my opinion...

A caution is one of the worst things that the police can give to someone breaking the law in 99% of cases.

Often people i have known of who have been caught shoplifting, breaking shop windows, fighting outside nightclubs etc and are then caught by the police and cautioned think its great.

It adds to their street cred profile that they have been arrested and let off for stealing/causing £2000 damage etc and then continue to tell everyone they know that they were let off for doing something illegal. There friends then know that its highly likly that if they get caught doing something similar they will get let off also.

or am i the only one that thinks like this???

a few months back was driving over to the flat i rent out with 2 plumbers following me in their van to fix the boiler up, as i was driving along i saw an old dear at the bus stop talking to a scummy looking bloke, scruffy looking, looked like he was holding her bag or her arm couldnt quite make out, looked very sus, slowed right down wound down me window & signalled to the 2 lads in the van, we pulled over & the three of us me 6"2 & 15stone lump & the 2 burly workmen crossed the road without even speaking one of the lads i was with grabs this guy round the throat & asks him politely what he's up to, the guy totally crapped himself, turns out she'd given him some money & then he'd gone down her shopping & had taken a cake out of her bags & was demanding more money, the other lad escorted the old dear across the road, the guy holding him round the throat mentioned that if we ever see you anywhere near here again, he will take him away in the back of his van & cut him up, you should have seen the look on the blokes face, never seen a pissed up scumbag run that fast, that was a good day for right over wrong
