Unhappy

A "friend" of mine had his car vandalised about 6 months ago. The b4st4rds poured paint stripper down his car and caused £1500 worth of damage. Recently things have come to light and he knows who did it. There is however no evidence for the police. Question is........what should he do?

The law-abiding, honest side of me would suggest civil court action, where, with the burden of proof and good representation, you may well come out successful.

The other side of my thinking... well, let's not go there...

Angry

I bet my "mate" would like to give him a few SMACS!

Unfortunately, whilst he would love to seek revenge, it could all to easily happen again.

If "your friend" knows 100% who did it but there is no evidence, then you should just back off and let nature take its course.....

because "someone" wearing a mask might follow them home, mug them, and give them a good kicking. Fate is funny like that....

Edited to add: anyway.... I heard spring pipe benders (available at a DIY store near you... err I mean "someone") can be quite nasty.....

My girlfriends Mini has had:

BMW painted on the windscreen in what looked like whitewash (came off ok)
Diesel poured through the vents at the top of the bonnet. Took a month to clear.
Broken into / I probably left it unlocked, they threw the service books etc. all over the road (a neighbour found them) and nicked my girlfriends glasses
Keyed or more likely, knifed this very morning.......
Neighbours Mini round the corner has had the whitewash treatment and chewing gum in the locks, so at least it's not personal

As long as your "friend" doesnt mention something like

"Thats for the damage to my car" whilst engaging in a friendly encounter And wears some form of balaclava then chances are it wont happen again to the car.

HTH

workshy_fopp - eeek! Did the Mini get done in our prestigious "poshest area of Edinburgh"?????

We had our wheelie bin torched a few weeks back - smelt burning plastic while dozing off at 1am, looked out window to see plastic wheelie bin down the road with 6' flames coming out of it - looked across to other bedroom window to see flickering outside our house - opened curtains to see our wheelie bin with 6' flames also!!

By the time I got clothes on and got out of house, the fire brigade zoomed round the corner and extinguished it (WTF!) - didn't know how they knew about it, but turned out it'd been alight for 10 minutes or so, and the woman down the road with her flaming bin had told the brigade to go to our house first as it looked like our wheelie bin was near the car (it wasn't - just looked that way from her angle). Bless her for that.

SCUM! Left a green plastic mess all over the pavement.

Must get that CCTV up and running soon.......love to meet the scum involved "away" from my house one day.

Earler this year, I noticed them also demolishing a very well used wooden bench in nearby parkland with an axe (who carrys an axe around at midnight?!) - soon as I went outside, they ran off down the street with said axe.

Petty crap, but just SO annoying.

Therein lies the key... if you have a "confontation" you must extract ID from them before, during or after said "confrontation" because if you know where they live they are less likely to come back.

Workshy - also, what scum has the brain cells to know a Mini is made by BMW!?!
That one is a bit wierd......wierd thing to write on windscreen!!!

Saying that, there was a story last year about ONLY German cars getting vandalised in a certain street in the New Town in Edinburgh. Residents suspected it was someone with a grudge against said country....
Maybe the suspect has moved to nearby us! :-(

Imlach - yes it's all happened outside the house, can't be 100% about the keying happening there, but seems likely.
The BMW painted on the screen was a weird one - it was surrounded by "real" BMW's at least 3 more on the street, but ours and the one round the corner got painted
It must be the same person. Got the car finger printed by the cops after the "break-in" so that it goes on record.

Workshy - we had our rear window smashed in the car while it was on the drive - happened during day while at work.

Scum never took anything, so must have been disturbed (mentally as well!) or just smashed it for a laugh.

Cops didn't want to know as nothing was taken........logged anyway.
