Scenes will be shown in Coronation St next week of two blokes (Todd and Nicky) kissing each other. WTF is wrong with this country. Why does this stuff have to rammed down our throats all the time as if its just OK these days to be like this.
I want my kids to grow up thinking that a heterosexual relationship is the correct way of doing things(which like it or not it is)and not that it is OK or right to be the other way.Think its pretty disgusting and unnatural myself.
Chip.

Frankly I worry more about people who don't have the mental capacity to realise Coronaton Street and like are utter ****e and virtually live their lives around the world of soap operas - that's about a third of the population from what I can tell.

I don't have a problem with gay people, it's thier choice, not mine, so fair enough. What I DO have a problem with is those gay people who do ram it down your throat by going on and on about the fact they are gay, like I proclaim every other second that I'm straight! Apart from that, I don't have a problem, it's the way of the world today. I personally don't see being gay as being 'wrong' it's just a different choice, and life is all about choices.

Chip,
You are entitled to your own opinion, but please don't pursue this subject further - I cannot see anything positive amounting from this sort of post.

Thats right. I dont have a problems with gays as such. I just hate all this gay promotion stuff which does unfortunately rub off on some people.

Dr Evil,
Why not. I have always been frank and open about things on here but dont see why I should stop just because of youe own personal opinion. I have stated I dont have a problem with gays but just cant see the purpose of promoting it all the time.
If you want to stop this thread then go ahead. But likewise stop any other that may offend others, take the mick, be irresponsible about speeding etc.

Chip - thats not how the first post reads, IMO.
Ridge Racer - ok, prove me wrong, discuss this in an adult and constructive manner.
It was only a suggestion that this be dropped.

So you think it's more damaging for your offspring to see homosexual activity as normal and accepted, rather than it being swept under the carpet, considered unnatural and something to be ashamed of?
What happens if your offspring turns out to be gay? No, hold on, I can guess: you'll blame coronation street.
I thought most people had accepted that homosexual people are normal and don't deserve to be treated in a different way to heterosexual?
I can see this disintegrating to a slanging match, which saddens me
I'm all for promoting heterosexuality, otherwise the human race is quite literally buggered (bad pun, sorry ) but tolerance and diversity is part of our lives. I don't think homosexuality should be promoted as a way of life, but on the other hand I reckon making people feel ashamed of their sexuality, particularly those coming to terms with it, is a surefire way to screw them up and also persist the atmosphere of discrimination.
Cheers,
Nick.

If you read my second post you will see I was replying to Markus. You were obviously typing at the same time and posteda few secs earlier than me. That post WAS my opinion.

Chiark,
That is my point. Why is CS promoting these scenes. If as you say ppl today thought it was normal to be gay then why the fuss over these scenes in the papers,TV etc.
If my offspring turn out to be gay then so be it.I will still love them the same.
We all know that promotion works and does convince younger minds that certain things in life are OK. Thats why they do it. Maybe I just want my kids to grow up in a more traditional way as I am sure the majority of ppl in this country would agree.

chip - if you care that much about what happens on Corrie, that's a bit sad. I don't see how a quick snog on a sh*te soap is "ramming it down our throats" and seeing as it has been so highly publicised - if you don't like it; don't feckin watch it.

I dont give a damn what happens on CS. I do care what my young kids watch though. After all we mustnt promote smoking on soaps so why the gay kiss. Whats the point. And yeas itshould be after thewatershed. If this had happened 20yrs ago there would have been a public outcry.Nowadays it saeems like ppl in this country have just given up caring.
Chip.

soap operas are *supposed* to represent what life is liek in the supposed real world - there are gay people out there, so why not have them in soap operas?
i don't really GAS one way or the other; it's a total non issue for me. I feckin hate corrie in any case.
i'm just surprised it's so shocking that you gotta post on SN about it. drink more wine and relax a bit - no wonder yer feckin uric acid levels are so high.

Chip, the telly has an off switch mate!
Do you have any gay friends? From your stance I would hazard a guess not. A couple of my friends are openly gay. They are not "disgusting and unnatural" they are my mates. If you get to know some people who are gay then it changes your viewpoint somewhat. They are not the demons you are making them out to be, they are just people.
