Question

I recently sold a huge copier to one of my existing customers. OK nothing unusual there, but here's the rub.

It is currently in Iver, Buckinghamshire and needs to get to Kirkby in Ashfield, Notts. Again nothing too wierd or difficult there.

When it gets to Kikby....here it comes.......It has to go up a set of stairs. 5 steps, 180 degree turn followed by 15 steps!

The machine weighs 390kgs and splits into 3 components.
The Paper supply 65kg
The Copier 221kgs
The Finisher 104kgs

How the hell or can anybody help me to get that machine up the stairs. It requires some sort of stair crawler i should imagine. Any other ideas anyone?

Picture of said beast.

Ok, you will need to use one of those trolly things with 3 wheels that 'walks' up the satirs OR get ropes underneath with a strong person on each one and lift it!!

My personal favorite would be phone Mini Movals and get them to shift it!!

its simple you are all missing the point

F=ma

The general guidelines for lifting are;

Get a good footing.
Place feet about shoulder width apart.
Bend at the knees to grasp the weight.
Keep the back straight.
Get a firm hold.
Keep the back as straight as possible.
Lift gradually by straightening the legs.
When the lift is too heavy or bulky for you to lift
comfortably - GET HELP!
When putting the load down, reverse the procedure.
Remember: LIFT PROPERLY - THINK.

Question

Hire a small crane/elevator to lift it through a window? Bit annoying though, they're normally used for 4th floor and above...

Just tell Super Si that photocopier carrying is a new event in Strongman... He'll be down there like a shot and be carrying that thing on his back to whereever you want! He may snap his spine in the process but that's only a minor injury for Si and next week he'll be back on form!

Red, tried the Basford company this morning and they don't have the equipment required The stair crawler thing is all good but you still need a qualified operator (Feckin' health and safety red tape ) cos if not used right will still fall down the stairs with people attatched to it.

Are you sure it won't break down into more components? I've seen the copier/printer here at work in oooh, must be at least a couple of hundred bits (all small and light) spread all over the floor.
All you need is a little ingenuity and a screwdriver set...
