30mph above the speed limit = a ban, over a 100 in a 60 = a lengthy ban

edited to say - sorry but I think a ban is appropriate!

Almost certainly a ban, sorry. I won't jump on the moral bandwagon 'cos everyone speeds and if the plod was behind a farm building I'm guessing you were out of town, nowhere near a school etc. and we've all been there. Put it down to (expensive) experience and learn that if a 2 mile straight is tempting to you, then it's tempting to others for different reasons. Stick to the narrow twisties where triple figure speeds are virtually impossible and too dangerous anyway. How much for your Scoob

A friend got a weeks ban for 93 in a 70 on the Kendal bypass. His insurance company were not bothered by a weeks ban, but all companies do ask if you have ever been banned.

Plead guilty and try to claim you need the car for work, and get a Lawyer to plead your case, I'm sure it will be worth it.

Keep your fingers crossed and try to be as appologetic as possible, you need to give the magistrate the impression you have learnt your lesson.

Any of you guys remember my old post from a few weeks back when I was doing 110 + ish.... well it went to court this morning...The judge was pretty reasonable giving me 9 points, a 21 day ban and £2500 fine...Due to a cracking solicitor, and pleeding that if I lose my licence I lose my job, therefore cannot pay the mortgage and then the government would then have to house me the mrs and kids, whilst also paying me £39 a week dole money all my council taxes etc. I think considering the speed and the fact that I was stuipd doing this speed even though the road was empty I got away pretty lightly. taught me a lesson though and I have not broken the speed limit since.

galv - didnt mean to be unhelpful but 43mph over the speed limit!

Do a search on here for this subject and I'm sure you will find a link or two to some useful sites which can help.

Whatever happens its gonna be expensive, good luck. I'm sure a lesson will be learnt.

Bad luck! They sure do know how to hide well these days
You know why they are called safety cameras?
They pick the safest spot on the road to hide their cameras where most people will feel comfortable driving a little quicker for maximum revenue.
Sorry but I agree a ban is likely...may be a short one if you can present evidence that your job is threatened or others may suffer if you loose your license for a long period creep and admit you were wrong and offer to take an advanced driving course will help.
What ever you do dont try and fight it etc it just pisses everyone off, fine and ban will grow accordingly...
after all, like it or not, it is a fair cop.

Attitudes to this type of post on this BBS are variable, you have the righteous the just the fair the sympathetic, the police and the "want to be" police who all have fierce views. Sadly the most extreme views seem to get presented the most often.

See you soon in Non Scooby related, the moderators favorite dumping ground for this sort of popular emotive hot potato post!

I have to say that if someone went past me the going the other way at 103mph on a single carriageway, I'd probably think he deserves what's coming to him, whether it's a speeding ticket or a lamp post.

Sorry, but just my opinion!

I got a £555 fine and 6 points for 98 in a 60 single carriageway - but no ban It seems to be a myth that 30mph over the speed limit is a ban. Get a letter from your employers if you need the car for your job. If you have legal cover on your insurance see if it covers you for Solicitors costs - mine did which saved me £400.

Cheers,

Ian.

Unlucky Mate, you dont even deserve a ban! Dont listen to the t******'s on here who preach rubbish. Anyone who owns a Subaru and has never gone over 100 on a single carriageway should sell up and buy a Micra. Hope it works out for you.

Depends on the magistrate and how busy they are that day. Guy at work got done 102 on a slip road, probably a 60 zome? Turned up with a very expensive breif, just as his lawyer started to plea los of job and all that, the magistrate stopped him, asked if he was trying to escape a ban, and said he was very busy. Got away with £500 fine and six points. Shame cos we all thought he was a tw#t! Good luck tho, just wondering all the law enforcing hypocrits on here saying you deserve a ban have never done three figures!!!! Think not or you'd all be driving micra's!

Sorry Mr Leigh you must have got that one in about micras while I was fumbling on the keyboard! Great minds think alike........ but then again fools seldom differ.

Mr Leigh ... good comments mate. Galv, if the copper said you'd get 8 points then that can be quoted ... if a road is clear and there is no danger then a 60mph limit is stupid. Japan and Germany have much safer roads because the people out there don't have to worry about people hiding in bushes with speed cameras.

Complete revenue generation. Don't listen to all the people on here who get all moral about the limits. Boring f@rts who should be in diesel mondeo's!

Good point Mr Leigh! Trouble is if you do happen to have an accident and kill someone while driving at over 100mph you're probably looking at a fairly legthy prison sentence.

And Gangsta, it's called defensive driving, if you've had a motorbike it's something you do without realising it, to say "if a road is clear and there is no danger" is just ludicrous, how can you know there is no danger?

Speeding carries 3-6 points, guidelines are; from 31 - 40 mph over in a 60 - 70 limit, 6 points or disqualification for up to 56 days. Of course it is always in the magistrates discretion to disqualifiy for longer or shorter periods.

If need licence for work you will need to argue that it would cause exceptional hardship if you were disqualified. Get letter from work to confirm you need to drive.

Good luck!

The best thing about these threads is that it makes ME slow down!

Happy to admit exceeding 100 where I probably shouldn't have
but think advice about keeping it to the twisties is good and don't be tempted by the terminal velocity game (see other thread re top speeds today).

Find it hard to believe all the "better-than-thou" anti-speed merchants; sort of doesn't fit with Scoobynet passion?

Safety YES - devout adherence to speed limit, mmmm?
