I'm unemployed for the first time in 9 years. When can I expect to find work again?

That's not allowing for the "Jobseekers" who although don't have jobs, are not classified as unemployed until 6 months of jobseeking. And then just before they get called officially unemployed they get sent on a coarse lasting 1-3 days, which then removes them from being jobseekers, until after the coarse when they become jobseekers again, for another 6 months. And then there's seasonal adjustment, whatever that is. I call being unemployed "unemployed" whether it's Christmas or summer!

All the figure are lies, told to us by lying politicians. Why do you think there's so much voter apathy? Who wants to vote for people they have no trust, faith or belief in?

Biggest problem eventually will be paying back all the money which has been borrowed.

Nil unemployment will not happen

The achievments of New Labour are.............

Lowest interest rates from an economy inherited from the Tories.

Stick with Labour. Yep if you want more crime, more Asylum seekers, education cuts, crap NHS, war, very high taxation, plenty of Government scandal etc.

Lewis you really are a twerp.

Chip.

No , I will vote. Always have done.

The trouble is at the moment is that Tony has such a large majority if he doesnt get his way then he just forces things through. This is not democracy. If your going to do things this way then why have a commons vote.

As for who I will vote for. It certainly will not be Labour.

Remember new Labour was voted in by only 23% of the electorate. Hardly a sign of the backing of the general public. If ppl had to vote then I am sure the result would be completely different.

Please don't tell me you believe the unemployment figures accurately indicate the number of people out of or looking for work?
There are loads and loads of people looking for work who are not allowed to register as unemployed.
Unemployment figures mean diddly squat!

Chip

Is that not a sad sign of the times that so few people can be assed to vote? I don't know the figures but way to many people don't vote IMO.

I refer you all to the Muppet lewis's last two ‘unfinished’ threads reagarding his hero Phoney Tony.

Classic troll material, starts contentious thread, get blasted out of the water for talking utter crap, then leaves without answering any of the pointers put to him. This obviously gets his esteemed post count up, which makes him a big man, or something, in his book anyhow that is, lol.

We can ALL pull out news items, the below is FACT:-

UK unemployment falls again

Unemployment in the UK fell again in October, while the number of people in work rose to a new record.
Official figures show that the number of people claiming benefit fell by 8,400 to 1,204,000 - the lowest figure since April 1980.

The unemployment rate remained at 4.2%, also the lowest for almost 20 years.

The International Labour Organisation (ILO) quarterly total for July to September, which includes people looking for work but not eligible for benefit, fell by 39,000 to 1,721,000 - a rate of 5.9%.

Record employment

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures also show that the number of people in work has risen to a new record of 27.5m - an increase of 329,000 in the year.

The rise means the employment rate now stands at 74.2% - the highest since spring 1990.

The Employment Minister, Tessa Jowell, said: "This record number of people in jobs clearly shows that the government's policies of moving people from welfare into work and of making work pay are taking effect.

"We have low interest rates and low inflation. The key challenge now is to continue to steer a course of stability and steady growth and ensure there is no return to boom and bust of the Tory years'

Pete, if you want a serious discussion regarding the extent to which this government have altered the criteria by which official unemployment statistics are now reported, let me know.

In short, it's a farce. But i'm sort of guessing that trying to convince you of that would be like pi55ing in the wind...

I’ve worked with unemployed people for the past 13 years. There are more long term unemployed being referred to me now than ever before, so much so that our company is expanding faster than we can cope. This is how I judge the state of unemployment today, not with some government fiddled statistics. I've never worried about losing my job and I'm not losing any sleep over factitious claims of full employment. It will never happen, not by a long chalk.

Telboy I recently gave a few explanations in SN regarding how the unemployment figures are currently 'massaged', especially Training for Work (ha!). But as you say, trying to explain it to the ‘faithful’ ^ would deffo be a waste of my time so I wont bother repeating myself, and in 'this' case its not so much pissing in the wind as dribbling down the leg

HSBC have just announced plans to assist Pete with his unemployment figures by firing 4,000 over the next 3 years.

Working in an industry where staff can easily move around 'full employment' can be very difficult for the employer. Staff going AWOL or just not doing the job are infuriating at the best of times, but with FE it merely diverts even more management time to searching for suitable replacements.
