Exclamation

Is it just me or are you lot horrified at the number of Juggernaut drivers who are chatting on a phone whilst driving a killing machine???

Went to London Science Museum today and even saw a HGV driver with his foot on the dash and texting!! while travelling on the M4!!! What the HELL are they thinking???????????

I hope they lose their livelihood if caught after 1st December ..... oh, how I would LOVE to be a coppa dishing out those £30 fines!!

Pete

Need bigger fines or points to really put them off. Well at lesat they're doing Something.

Hands free kits people can get for as little as £5/£10. No-one has any excuse.

I once saw a bloke driving a transit using TWO mobiles, must have been driving with his knee.

An accident waiting to happen.

Yes I agree, I think it is particularly dangerous behaviour.

lorry drivers have their own rules we don't understand - we're not qualified like they are.

this is not a windup ... it's what they say every time.

honest

wow... I find myself agreeing with psl against my better judgement!

You are right tho... you would think they would be slightly put off by that trucky who got banged up when they checked his mobile phone records and found he had sent a text right at the moment he slammed into the back of someone and killed them.

They should all learn to touch-text like I can... dont take my eyes of the the road!

Isnt a new law coming in at the end of this year to make it illegal to even have a mobile in your hand whilst the car is moving?

Cool

Certainly is, the only way to use a mobile in ur car will be by way of a Hard Wired Kit. Any other way is or will be made illegal.

So buy now while there are cheap cos u know there gonna put them up in price.

IMO all mobile telephone conversations should be banned while at the wheel, whether by handsfree or not. The effect it has on concentration and road awareness is shocking.

Then again, cars are (and always have been) full of distractions. My mum can't drive properly and hold a conversation at the same time FFS, so where do you draw the line???

i totally agree and i welcome new legislation... first hand experiencehas tought me...i dont need any lecture just sharing my thoughts... i wrote my car off by sending a txt msg at traffic lights...no body hurt and no other cars were damaged but wrote mine off...was gutted and let that be a lesson to everyone!!!

dont txt and drive...its not clever to crash your car...its gutting!

"all mobile telephone conversations should be banned while at the wheel"

Its no different to having a conversation with someone else in the car, no different to fumbling around looking for cd, tape, changing radio station etc etc.

What bollox, IMHO

greasemonkey

if i drive at 20 in a 30 on a hands free is that worse than 30 in a 30

talking to my totty in the passenger seat
talking to my mate about down-pipes in the passenger-seat
listening to AC/DC
listening to Ipswich scoring their 6th against burnley on 5-live
listening to desert-island-discs
looking at the millions of advertising boards right by the road

It's a difficult one, I know I can't do anything while holding a conversation on the phone - no idea why it's just one of those things. But if I am just getting directions to somewhere, where I am not doing anything other than following instructions, no problems.

When travelling in convoy and someone else in it calls you, is it not safer to answer and say 'it's not this junction, but the next one' than to have a queue of 5+ cars pull over onto the hard shoulder to have the same 10 second conversation?

It should come down to the individual driver and the particular circumstances, but as with speeding and such like laws are setup to cover the lowest common denominator.

Erm, don't know if you missed the end of my post, but I quite agree with you - hence the reference to cars being full of distractions prior to the advent of mobile phones.

Greasemonkey, not wishing to get into an arguement, I presumed your first sentence was YOUR statement regarding the topic!
