A considered non-vote is just as valid as a vote...and makes far more sense than voting for a party you don't really agree with.

The problem is apathy.

Maybe voting should be compulsory but with an no-vote option on the ballot paper.

Would be interesting to see the count of no-votes...

Cheers

B

I don't vote.

I have a choice of 5 parties

1. Those catholic paramilatary thugs who only have their own best interest in mind!
2. Those protestant paramilatary thugs who only have their own best interest in mind!
3. Those other catholic paramilatary thugs who only have their own best interest in mind, even though most people think they are a bunch of nutters. (Shinners)
4. Those other protestant paramilatary thugs who only have their own best interest in mind, even though most people think they are a bunch of nutters. (DUP)
5. The womens coalition

oops - Forgot the Alliance party

Go and get your name down as a postal voter.
You can then sit on your **** during polling day knowing you've made a difference.

Mind you, I think the only difference you could make to the government is by nuking parliment

Not that I'm an anarchist or anything.....

hmmmm, perhaps I am

LOL at voters - waste of good ink ticking the box IMHO from the political point of view. Also who can be bothered going down the local primary school after a hard days work and its time to crack the first few stellas of the evening

Seriously though, if nobody that has even the slightest chance in hell of getting elected actually represents my views on what should happen to gypsies, benefit blaggers, criminals and the rest of them - why bother. At the end of the day if some bugger taxes me ***** off and says screw you when my car is vandalised then I am proud to say you are nothing to do with me pal, and then come on here and whinge about it

Unhappy

Further to that, the whole thing really is like Big Brother these days in that the contestants are intelligent enough to realise what sort of person you have to be to win, and then tailor themselves into that mould just to be popular. Probly they really think just the same as the rest of us when their pot head neighbour is having another party at 3am on a work night but political correctness stops them coming out with it

Sorry but B*LL*CKS !

The day I stop paying HUGE taxes is the day my opinion doesn't count.

I agree with the other replies too, I'm not gonna vote for voting sake, they're all a shower of sh*ite ! It's just at the moment, it's Labour that are in power and screwing up royally.

Matt - many thousands of men and women died to allow you the freedom to express your wishes and that included your right to vote!!

If you wish to squander that blood covered voting form is for you to decide .............. but, to my mind, if you fail to excercise that right then you also lose your right to complain about what others have elected for you!!

I don't care if you pay taxes - we all do!! even those in a dictatorship!! only THEY have NO chance of ever getting things changed in a peaceful way - YOU HAVE, and to waste it is a disgrace!!

Pete

Good grief ! I will not be drawn into an arguement on this, but suffice it to say that I TOTALLY disagree with your romantic views on this subject ! If you feel that my decision not to vote is a disgrace then you are very narrow minded - but I can live with this.

The fact is, I won't vote for the hell of it - despite a mass populous apparently dying for me to do so

This 'pslewis' guy cracks me up , but my Friday morning has started with a laugh...

Yes, well, ermmm, even as a newly registered and hugely traceable subject/statistic/category/**voter**/person/taxpayer/potential crim/ I hardly think that me (and it is ME you refer to here) is gonna make a whole heap of difference with a single vote. I say this as I realise I over-react to privacy issues (with no real reason...) and acknowledge your P take P

I would always have been happy to register to VOTE - but it is not about registering to VOTE - there is a whole hidden agenda behind it, and if you think it is transparent and upfront then you are wrong! You all probably wonder why you get hassled by the cops; called by Everest; called up for Jury service in the middle of your hols and are forced to take a dodgy M&S 29.3% APR credit card

I'll be voting this time (and thank Tony Bliar for making me toe the ‘subject’ line) but not with passion, conviction and political affiliation - just out of desperation to get these C*nts out. That is VERY sad as I used to have a political conviction.

D - registered D - legal, herded, pigeonholed and now a governmentally registered decent sheep! Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhh!!!!!!! Baaaaaa-d-laaaabour-wingnut!

no, i vote the same way - pick up pencil, take slip to booth, mark cross, fold slip and put in box. Surely there cant be any benefit in doing it a different way for different elections???

To answer the question, yes. Local Elections are about local issues, candidates usually live in the same area/street as the electorate and have the same passion to deal with issues. I vote for the candidate, not the party.

General Elections are a lot less personal, candidates don't have the time to address all local issues so I mainly follow what the parties are campaigning on.

As someone who works on various stages of the election process, I find it a little disturbing that the electorate is getting older and older and that more and more people "don't see the point." I think an option to register that you do not find any candidate suitable would greatly improve things, as low turnout could not be blamed on apathy.
