I was looking for a flight home for a weekend in november, and managed to find myself, from east midlands to edinburgh, an outbound flight for £4.69 and return for £1.49 with easyjet!

Only when I came to pay for them, the whacked on £22 tax!

WTF is that all about, it never used to be that much!

Money grabbing w@nkers!

So let me get this straight...

In all a return flight to scotland is going to cost you £28.18 and you're not happy with that price ??

I understand that the point is that you feel ripped off like that guy in the egg advert but surley this is still a good price

I've just noted that the 'charges and taxes' on an Edinburgh-Exeter return flight are £33.80 with flybe.com

There is no breakdown between the actuals taxes and their charges are though...

Still, the flights are £2.10 each way so muzntgrrrumble.

Not so long ago man could only go as fast as he could run or fall of a cliff. Now man (or rather women in this instance) can soar like a bird in the skys for little over £25 bucks. Seems pretty reasonable to me I'll warn Edinburgh you're coming

You could always get the train, it'll take 4 times as long and cost 4 times as much and you'll probably have to get a coach for some of the journey, but you'll avoid airport tax

In slight defence of the airports - 400% it may well be, but the plane hasn't got any smaller and it doesn't carry any less passengers or luggage, just because the airlines see fit to have a price war. Airports don't operate out of some misplaced charity to passengers, they are a business and they have to cover their costs.

The overall price of the ticket is pretty reasonable to me.

I agree that overall price of the ticket is great. But it is a little decieving when they are advertising flights that cheaply. Wasn't airport tax like £5 not too long ago?

Kenny,

I wouldn't worry about letting Edinburgh know I'm coming, I will be spending most of my visit being fitted for a sodding PINK bridesmaid dress! (I'm hitting the town on the Friday night tho Courtesy of Big sister & Co!)

Little known fact - if you don't actually fly (i.e. you cancel or whatever) you can get the tax back, but the airlines keep quiet about that one. Wonder why?
