Cool

What is the standard speeding fine on a Belgian Autobahn for doing 145 in a 120 zone? also is 8 months a reasonable amount of time between commiting this hanous crime and receiving a fine? and what will the Belgian authorities do if you don't pay it?

And yes to all you doo gooder tree huggers I did the crime and I don't want to pay the fine, because I think it is exceptionally steep which is why I want to know what a Belgian would expect to pay.

Steve - we talking MPH or clicks?

My advice would be: unbuckle ones belt from ones trousers, drop said trousers and position oneself face first over a large vessel for transporting beer

Although maybe Theo might be of better help

Best of British errr I mean Belgian

Wurzel - move to Blighty mate and dodge the fine. Obviously you'll probably rack up more in fines by the time you've got out of Dover!!!

Rich it is KM so not overly fast anyway. Infact that was probably the slowest I have ever driven down there, the time before that I was racing some white thing at over 220kmh, lucky I didn't get caught for that one

they took 8 months to send me a fine which is all in Belgian jibberish not even sure it is a language telling me to pay €156 for doing 145 in a 120km zone heading into Oostende. The camera was in a bush on the central reservation of a 3 lane motorway, the guy that put it there was talking his life in his hands

anyway I am not bleating about it I just think €156 is a tad on the steep side for 25km over the limit.

Think yourself lucky you're not Finnish, where they calculate it as a proportion of your earnings. Wasn't it last year when a vice-director of Nokia got something like a half a million euro speeding fine? (I never did find out if he paid it or successfully appealed).

Rich A - Belgium's an odd country it's true, but it ain't going to be MPH if it was in a 120 zone, is it?

Nokia bloke (Mr Vanjoki) had to pay a fine equal to 14 days of his income in 1999, which was about 14 million euros ($12.5 million).

Belgians don't you just love em - famous for only two things; paedophilia and chocolates. Presumably the chocolates came out of necessity to excel at the first.

Steve, think yourself lucky you were in Belgium and not Switzerland, I got cought doing about the same in Schweiz a couple of years ago and it cost me 600DM on the spot (all major credit cards accepted!). It was a bit weird though as he had the fines written down in a notebook... kinda looked like one price for the Swiss another for the auslanders I tried arguing, but the alternative was to impound my car until a court could hear my case
