Just moved home and got a BT landline to get ADSL. Only working phone I have is an 12 year old Sony intergrated answerphone which works fine (especially on speakerphone) but am thinking cordless so I can wander around the house (mobile signal on 02 is pants here).
Anyone recommend what to look for and what is a decent phone as I have never event thought about buying one before? Looking to spend around £80 but can spend more if its needed.
Simon.

Simon,
Take a look at the Panasonics. I have the 515 and think it is pretty good. Sound is crystal clear and has fun stuff like polyphonic ring tones etc.
Used to have a Samsung flip phone which was very smart and easy to use. However, rechargeable battery died after a year, wouldn't hold charge and replacements were £40.
Cheers
Ian

Yep the 515 is pretty good, 505 if you don't need the answering machine. Unbeatable.co.uk were the cheapest when I bought mine.

Whatever you do, avoid the Philips ones. They are sh1te. I've just taken mine back for a refund. Worked ok as a phone, but menu system v. unfriendly, and takes a month of sundays to respond to each button press.
FYI, replacement NiCD / NiMH battery packs for most cordless phones are available from either Farnell or CPC for about £3. They cover hundreds of models.

With such a wide range of Pannies to choose from, how do you all pick that one?
I'm in the same position, but not sure if we get the same models out here, they might be renumbered. I want to buy a set of two or maybe three WITHOUT answermachine. TBH am more interested in reliability and battery life than range or functions, we don't use the home phone much anyway.
BTW, someone asked this q a few months ago and one poster replied that he hated Panasonic, can't remember why, but I was quite surprised. Something to do with the controls I think.

Well, the info given beside the piccies on the Pan website is crap, totally uninformative and incomparable.
However, the fact that (with a bit of browsing) you can download the ENTIRE INSTRUCTION MANUAL for each phone is great!![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Some bedtime reading for me...

I'm also in the market for a new DECT phone. Important features:
* Ability to mute calls (not just put them on hold, like my BT-branded Siemens)
* Handsfree
* Answering machine operation from the handset
* Actually one that takes a headset would be good
* 'Intuitive' menu structure (unlike my BT-branded Sagem)
* Small handset

I'm looking for a good DECT phone too.
My main concern is that some of the DECT phones that I've been on the receiving end of, seem to be slightly muffled and lack the crispness of a standard analogue non-cordless phone.
Is this just a 'feature' that I will have to live with, or does the 505 have a good quality output?
