Hi All you speeders!!
Just been chatting with a JP - very interesting chat regarding speeding - I will pass on what I have gleaned from someone who dishes out the penalties:-
1. The fine for speeding is 1 weeks wages, say £1000
2. The average fine is £250
3. They ask you to fill in an earnings declaration
4. Some are advised NOT to fill it in by their lawyers
5. The ONLY thing that the bench can impose, fine wise, if they have no earnings declaration form is the average ... ie. £250!
6. Also, do NOT turn up at court - or you WILL be asked your earnings and you then MUST declare them and be truthfull - or its BIG pooh!!
So, basically, you can save yourself £750 by just not bothering to turn up or even fill out any of the forms!!
Hope it helps someone, sometime, somewhere - made me think!
Pete

I heard on the proverbial grape vine that if you pay your fine plus £1 then the £1 has to be refunded.
You are clear because you've paid your fine.
BUT... you don't get the points on your licence until your account is paid in full. So if you don't cash the cheque the account isn't cleared and you don't get the points put on...
Might be garbage, just what I heard....

Thats ONLY £52k per year!!!! Come on!!
I WAS trying to be sensible, as when I put £60/hour people get pi55ed off somewhat!!
Anyway - its only an illustration - live with it and discuss the speeding fine tip instead!!

i hear if you make an ATM withdrawl from barclays for £39.99 the system can't cope with pence. this means the banks computer system will crash and all the safes (which are locked by pc based alarms) will pop open thus allowing you to rob them.
you do lose the £39.99 though but even so..still pretty cool!
T
ps- pete...on £1,000 pw how can you afford a car quick enough to speed in?

Pete,
I concur with this. I recently got scamera'd on my Hayabusa at 89 in a 60. I did not go to court on the given date and was fined £250 with £35 costs. If I'd gone, it'd have been worse. I was advised not to go, and this seems to have saved me from a bigger fine.
Still got 5 points though! Bugger!

What about if on the Court Summons you're told you must appear in court?
Sadly I filled my form out (like a good little citizen ) and popped it in the post yesterday

Wish you'd shutup about how rich you 'claim' to be lewis. We all know you’re a complete Pinocchio kn@b ed' so give it a rest m8.
In fact, here's an anagram for peterslewis = LIE SPEW REST, then start all over again, LIE SPEW REST (repeat till death).
Yawn.

Ah, but in one of pslewis's posts from his 'early' days on SN he claimed he had to "save up for ages" for his Scoob. Hmmm, earns £100 K+ pa, lives in a £300 K+ house, but has to save up for ages for a £20K car? Hmmm.
