I have just completed (well almost 6 months ago now) all my application process Si, and am just waiting for a start date for my training at the moment.
Any questions feel free to ask me them. Have you had a look on http://www.policecouldyou.co.uk?

Yeah im really serious. I was thinking RAF for a career then my girlfriends dad talked me out. i then thought Firebrigade. Seemed logical being into weights and fitness and strength. Then the surgestion of police really appealed.
What does the application Process Involve?
Oh im slightly colour blind this put me off before not sure how i stand

What does the application Process Involve?
Day One Selection Event:
PIRT (Police Initial Recruitment Test), in the Met we were only taking sections 3 and 4 at that time, working with numbers and verbal reasoning.
Report Writing exercise - we were shown a short video, and had to write a report on what we had seen etc....
That was all that was done on my Day One.
Day Two Selection event:
Medical
Fitness Test
Interview
Documentation
Fingerprinting.
Obviously if you failed the interview part on teh Day 2 tehn you didn not need to carry on any further.
The Met have changed what they do now to recruit, as they are following the national recruitment policies now. So there are other tasks that have to be done.

Colour vision
Severe colour vision deficiencies (monochromats) are not acceptable. Anomalous trichromats are acceptable. Severe anomolous trichromats or dichromats are aceptable but you will need to be aware of the deficiency and make appropriate adjustments. The use of colour correcting lenses is not acceptable.
Full copy of eye sight standards are avaliable here

si,
You'll get all your questions answered here:
www.offduty.co.uk
Just go into the forums, 'front door' is the best place to post.
Colour blindness, if not too severe, shouldn't be a problem, but will stop you doing the advanced driving course ('kin terrifying anyway) and firearms of any description will probably be a no-no...which is a pity 'cos its a buzz
If you are thinking of the graduate entry scheme, it won't affect you anyway...you'll spend your whole service sat in an office talking sh1te to other bosses while you lads on the street get ragged from pillar to post.
Cheers
Deako

Both my (male) grandparents were Police Officers,as was my Uncle and my Father, who retired after 33 years as a Chief Inspector.
It is the last proffesion on Earth that I would choose,I urge you to reconsider

Then you will become 'brainwashed'by them, all sense of reason will disappear.
There will be no more 'grey' areas in your life, everything will be
either black or white, right or wrong.
Your whole personality will change!!

Joining the police for me anyway is not because of the salary or anything like that, I earnt a lot more while working in IT, but because it is a job that I have always wanted to do.
For me it is about following my dream, when I was at junior school, we were all asked what jobs we wanted to do when we were older and I came out with Police Officer, and it hasn't really ever gone far from the back of my mind either, all the time I was in IT I was considering it. Just the IT market gave me the shove that I needed
Some of my best friends are serving Police Officers, and they have helped me out so much with the application process, Si if you do decide to go through with this then drop me a line and I will help you where possible.

Police - thought of getting a real job firstly and seeing a bit of life before joining the police?
Part of being a policeman is life experience and understanding..which you dont get coming straight out of education. That may help you with passing written/documentation tests but dont help you with the day to day public interfacing.
Why not try doing a bit of part-time police work through the special constales side and see if you like it etc then decide.
Many people get an insite and then go for it and some come out thinking mmmm maybe not what i really want but it at least helpes make up your decision..
It does not sound to me like you have decided really what you want to do..this may help..

Super_si, if I remember correctly you are the big body building guy?
If so this may be an issue, I had a mate who was refused entry to the Met because he was overweight for his height. The fact that it was all muscle didn't seem to matter.
I think that the nurse told him: 'when you stop training you will put on lots of weight..'
or something like that.
