Just been watching the reruns of Goodnight Sweetheart Series 1 on UK Gold. I always enjoyed the programme when it was first shown but missed a few episodes, so it's good to catch up.
Anyway, it got me thinking that if time travel was possible, when would you like to go back to and why?
I'll start off by saying that my preferred time would also be relatively recent (in terms of all the times that you could go back to). I was around in the late fifties/early sixties (now aged 47) but too young to really appreciate a lot of what was going on. When the Beatles came along I was aware that popular music was going through a big change, but at about 6 years old I wasn't going to any concerts. I also remember Mods and Rockers on the News, but wasn't too aware of the culture behind it all.
I (just) caught the tail end of pirate radio, but living in Scotland the only pirate station was Radio Scotland (Swinging to you on 242!).
If time travel was possible, I'd like to be able to go back to that era - but at an appropriate age for the time (say, 18 in 1961) and knowing what I know now.
When would everyone else like to go back to and why?
Doug

I too would love to go back to the days of Beatlemania, being 5 in 1963, was not a great help as I would have loved to have gone to their concerts, like my sister did.

Funny think about the MS shares, my boss had a choice of what to by shares in, can't remember what the other company was, but the one he did not get shares in was... you guessed it MS, if he had got them he would have been a very happy man indeed.
As for me, when would I like to time travel back to? hmm, well, there is a time and a place, but I'm not telling and to be honest, I'm not honestly sure I would go back to then, not sure the universe would let me change what I'd want to change, which is after all why you'd go back, and even if I could change what I wanted I am not sure I would want to, whose to say the outcome would not be the same, only delayed?
Actually, I do know some times I'd like to go back to, but I'd have to travel in location too. Let's see
Egypt - To see the pyramids being built, this would clear up who did build them and how
Roswell, New Mexico - think we all know when and why I'd want to be there
Dallas - Grassy Knoll - again, think we know why on this one
A stable, somewhere, many many years ago - again, we know why, and I'd hang around for about 30 odd years, just to keep an eye on proceedings

Markus - Going back in time with the idea of changing things wasn't really what I was originally thinking of. It was more with a view to "When would you like to go back to just to see what it was really like?"
Changing geography is fine for responses.
Civictyper - I'm not talking of permanently going back. I was thinking of the situation in Goodnight Sweetheart (spelt it correctly that time ) where Gary can travel between the present day and the same day 53 years previously. (And as the first series was shown in '93 means that he went back to 1940).
Thanks for the replies so far.

@ Poor Guy
Go & do John Lennon while you're at it! Imagine, my @rse
I'd go back to the 66/67 & get myself a couple of those obsolete Ferrari 250 GTO's whilst they are giving them away Yes, Enzo did. He had no time for obsolete racers, if he couldn't get rid, he scrapped them

Too many things to go and see, but just a few spring to mind
See some dinosaurs
Go to Judea between around 32AD to see what really happened
Go to a Roman orgy
Battle of Waterloo
Whitechapel in 1888, see who he was
Tunguska in 1908

Ah, but if you were to kill Mr Hitler, who knows how history would have turned out? Might be better, but could be a lot worse, better to observe methinks.

you know I read this thread this morning and I cant think of anything Id wanna go back to see/do?? sad aint it, maybe Im having a memory lapse.
the only thing I d do differently inmy life now is not go with the other gal about 6 years ago even though it was a kiss, I would have prefered to have kept everything straigh between me and my misses and have more trust from her. sad aint it

I would go back to Feb 1st this year and change some decisions i made.
To some time in the early 1930's to see my Grandad, even my Mum hasnt seen her dad.
The Grassy knoll would be a good visit. just to know.
I would go back to that shopping center and stop Jamie Bulger from being taken to his death.

poor guy what are you on? kurt cobain was cracking song writer and coke head.
id probably like to go back in time and buy all the land around bond street and plush areas of london
also, go back and start school again, take revenge on all the numpties that annoyed me. ohh and work a bit harder.
last but not least, my primary mission, to protect john conner, and stop the guy responsible for the tweenies and teletubbies

There is some theory, can't remember what it's called, but it basically said that the universe would not let you go back in time and change something like killing hitler, think there was a film about this, some guy tried to shoot him but his gun kept jamming.
i think most of us would go back to see some historic events, to see if what is written or allgeged did really happen, thing is, who would believe you if you told them? I think the other flipside is that most people want to go back and put right the things that went wrong, hmm, very Sam Beckett Where's Al when you need him?
