[RANT MODE ON]
I decided I was going to sit down and do the returns today as at home for personal reasons. However the stupid ******* don't give you any warning until you go to do it that you will have to wait 7 days for an activation PIN Absolutely no where is there any warning on the paper info they send you that this is the case. As it is I couldn't do the paper version as they sent me the tax form a couple of days before the deadline for them to be returned
and when I phoned up to have a go they told me to do it online.
I have stronlgy advised
mr helpdesk chappie that they might want to consider putting a warning on future years forms to let people know if they intend to do it electronically then they will have a 7 day wait. If I had known I would have registered straight away just so that I would then be able to do it when I had time available.
Now going to have to take time out with my holiday time with my son just so I can get these forms back for around Christmas/beginning of January
And all this for PAYE so they have done all my tax already and know exactly what I earnt so a total waste of ******* time anyway![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
[RANT MODE OFF]
So anyway the message is don't think you can do it at the last minute electronically as you can't!
*and breathe*

B20, you're right, and it frustrated me that it wasn't an "insant" e-mail reply with the necessary ids and passwords. However, mine did arrive within three days, and the whole on-line experience, apart from being dreadfully designed, was very straightforward, in my opinion. I'll certainly be doing it the same way next year.
(PAYE doesn't exclude you from tax returns. That's just tax on employment income, not all other sources).

I have never had alternative income. I did however have the temerity to claim a couple of years back-tax for married man's allowance ( when it existed ). I have had a form every year since.

So what happens if you write to them to tell them that there has been no change in your earning status, and as such they should take the opportunity to save some of their time, and the tax payers money, by not sending you any more forms until your income status changes?

I hate hearing about beauracratic nonsense like this...

Doesn't matter. Once you are on 'the list', that's it. Tax Return every year.

Remember though that higher rate taxpayers will *usually* have some additional liability on investment income (bank/building society interest, dividends etc), even if it might be minimal.
