Dixons online are flogging a Fuji Digi cam and would like to see how good a 2M pixel image looks before I buy it as the missus' Xmas pressie. It's down from £200 to £99! My Camcorder does 2M pixel stills but they arent very good really - but someone said that was cos its a DV camcorder and not a stills cam...
(Had to laugh - went into the shop lunchtime to have alook and the chap had NO CLUE what I was talking about when I asked what media does each cam use, rechargable batts etc etc)

Is it this one:
I've got a 2.1 mp camera and the pics are of an amazing clarity - I can upload a few pics tonight although I guess by the time I get home there will be other SN's who will have posted theirs. I will take a look later and post one if no-one else has.

You`re right 2MP are not all the same. But if you look at Pics from the Fuji Finepix A205(example) you will have a good representation of the A405(which I think is the Camera Dixons have on offer), as they are basically the same camera with differing features.

Not quite sure what, if anything, you can learn from web-sized images. 2 megapixels is about 1600x1200, which can actually produce very detailed prints - the quality of any real 2MP camera will almost certainly be limited by its lens and by the noise level inherent in the sensor, not by the number of pixels.
For comparison, here is a 2MP image, downsized from a shot taken with a professional digital camera and lens. It's probably about as sharp and detailed as you could hope to get with a 2MP image, and I hope will be a useful standard against which to judge the output from 'real' 2MP cameras. Print it if you like - up to about 8x6 it should stand comparison with most 35mm prints.
Andy.

[edit - the above link to 'Steve's Digicam' pages answers all below questions - what a GREAT site!]
Thanks chaps - will process the info later [The balloon shot below does look fab and very saturated]
Just one more thing (as the Dixons website cunningly omit the more useful resolution spec [1200 x 1024] and battery details are generally ‘unspecified’) are these cams all generally supplied with rechargeable batteries & a charger? I bought a battery for me SLR and even the Boots brand one was £12 – am still hurting!!!
D
STOP make that MOST of Dixons website cam spec is 'UNSPECIFIED'; more like couldnt be arsed to find out... Pi$$ poor...

What's wrong with your **** mate
Alan - you have a drop shad on that picture? HOW? You're up to something MR Photoshop
I have just seen a Kodak one out there that is 5 Mega Pixels for £200. Currently leading the race, even if it doesnt look as good as the Nikon Coolpix...
D
PS - all these pics are better than my '2 Mega Pixel' Camcorder stills. Not sure how you get them to display so small here though - when I post they fill the screen up!
